Title: R65 Wiki Temporarily Removed
Post by: suraklyn on February 19, 2012, 12:39:24 PM
Something happened to the R65 Wiki that allowed spammers to take it over, and that resulted in a brief outage this morning as our host suspended my account until the offending wiki was removed from their server.

I do have a backup of the wiki and its database, so the information is not lost.  However, if this is something you guys want back, we're going to have to rebuild the wiki and potentially use a different wiki system that has more annoying security features to prevent bots from abusing the system.

I apologize for the brief disruption in service, and hopefully things will return to normal.

I was wondering what was happening this morning, I tried getting on around 0700 local and just got now at 1130 .

I personally don't use the Wiki section, so if it disappears, no loss to me .

I host a handful of sites on my account for a few friends, so you can imagine what I've been dealing with all morning with...

"omg! my site is down! omg omg omg!"

 :D ;D

I would like to have a working wiki if we could restore it and maintain it - as it could reduce the amount of thread searching, and "where the heck did I put those picture links" situations, and to handle FAQs, but... if it is going to be a substantial amount of effort to maintain, maybe it is best to continue to live without it until some of us have more time on our hands to do it properly.

Could we just put the wiki stuff in the FAQ section ?

Edit:

Now I look through the wiki there is some discussion on what we might put in there and how we might do it but unless I'm missing something there isn't really much useful information that could be transferred to the FAQ section. So for me we should consider loosing it rather than burdening the Administrators with unnecessary work.

The wiki section had articles and photos which were too long to include in the discussion sections.  Plus, they wouldn't disappear off the end in a month or so
