are here on the Island of the Dogs.
The first is a friend of mine, Luciano Bernadini. Luciano is an ex Moto GP mechanic - Rothmans team Honda and was also head mechanic for Honda Africa twin on the Paris Dakar. He owns a workshop in the capital, Denpasar and is an absolute genius. Most of the work he does is repair to just about anything with 2 wheels and an engine - except Hardly Drivables!
I introduced him to another friend (aka cargonaut) who bought an '81 R65 LS (see below) and Luciano is doing a full restoration on the bike, taking it back to the Henna Orange colour scheme and white wheels. I will keep you guys informed on the progress.

That is a nice looking clean LS. The battery covers are a nice touch. Do I understand that it is this bike he will be restoring to original? D2
-
Yeah, this "doggy" old 1981 R65LS sure looks abused. ::) Any more "heaps" like this one around town?
-
Wow, I'd say that bike looks pretty darn good as it is - not the 'pseudo-sporty' look of the LS, but, very, very BMW traditional. Still rides the same way, in either case - it is just more of a 'sleeper' in this configuration, which I kinda like.
-
It's gonna look like this!
-
No Offence but I like it in Black better. When I repaint mine it will be black w gold pipeing along with John Player Special logos.
-
I wholeheartedly agree - 'restoring' that bike would be a shame!!!
I wish my LS looked that good...
If he's going to replace the exhaust, I'd like to get this one.

I just bought an '82 R65LS and the gas tank was professionally painted Henna Red.
I plan on retaining the Henna Red color scheme but I prefer black on my motorcycles.
If the your gas tank is still decent and presentable (read no deep gashes), maybe we can agree on a trade.
-
Too late - it has already been painted and looks like some sort of fruit, probably grown in Chernobyl!
-
Too bad. I just realized that you are about 12 time zones away. The logistics would have been a challenge. Good luck on the restoration.

There is just no accounting for another man's taste. That WAS one beautiful r65 :-[ Good luck; hope you like the end result...... :-?
