Hey all! I've been putting on a Tech Day for the Airheads/R90S Club/Vintage BMW Club at my house for the last 10 years or so, and I thought I should post an announcement here, too. I'm in Santa Cruz, California -- about 80 miles south of San Francisco.
Visit my website at http://sctd.crafty-fox.com to read more and RSVP for the event. There's a map there, too.
Basically, I open up my garage and we get about 40-50 people to show up. Most stand around and talk, but some people do actual work on their bikes. We have had real projects in the past, like a transmission replacement, and once I installed a crank in someone's R50/2 crankcase.
I have the usual hand tools, two lifts, some air tools and some BMW special tools. I provide the main dish for lunch and ask others to bring something to share.
It starts at 10 and generally runs until 4-5 or when the last bike leaves. April 9th is the second Saturday of April. The event is rain or shine.

Sounds like fun Darryl, though a bit far for me. Good luck, and post pics when it's over.

Ed - it's closer than it is to me, and I'm really considering going. It's worth it just to see his place! Got the beemer back up and running yet?

Darryl, I have updated our Member's Google Map with this year's information.

Thanks Rob!
At the moment, everything is running except the R12, and there's even some hope for that. If you come down from Oregon, there's space to put a bedroll on the floor or you can camp in the backyard or down in "the glen".

The Beemer runs fine, it's the Triumph that I have apart for a paint job. And now my pickup too. I would have to make a trip like that part of a longer camping trip, and I don't know when I'll ever get around to doing something like that again.

Just want to give this thread a bump.
The Tech Day is just a week away! I hope to see a couple more R65s here!

Darryl,
I'm thinking about this. Might just work. I'll get all the pertinent info together and see if I can make it. Just got back on here and since it's only a week away. Just have to get my partner bumped into it. ;)
Thanks for posting this!

Those old liars at the NWS are now saying that it will be clear and in the high 60s on Saturday. If you can make it Melena, come on down.

Hi Darryl!
I just remembered that I won't be able to make it. Cousins from France (well, Alsace where it's been Germany, then France, then Germany, then France but is France since WWII) are going to be here staying at my brother's place. They've only been here once before and I can't miss seeing them.
They are from the town that my Grandmother's family is from (father's mother). They grew Gewürztraminer grapes for wine! I guess that's why I like that kind of wine. ;)
-
I suppose that's an ok excuse. :)
You should arrange to visit them and borrow a bike! I did some riding in the Vosge around the Ballon d'Alsasce and it was beautiful and fun. Also, there's this great little town, Fugeroles, that has FIVE Kirschwasser distilleries. :)

The weather was great and we had almost 60 people show up to my house yesterday, and all 20 lbs. of chicken and 35 lbs. of spare ribs that I BBQed disappeared. I didn't have a chance to take any photos, but a friend of mine took a few:

Sounds like it was a great time, Darryl!
I attended a similar event put on by the Ohio Airheads in Columbus over the weekend:

I got to go on a ride to Re-Psycle BMW!
