Title: Registration / EPA Stickers
Post by: Mike V on May 19, 2010, 11:08:05 PM
I wanted to get an announcement out to all of you that may have a need to reacquire your EPA frame rail sticker due to corrosion or loss from frame prep and paint/powder coat. My sticker was lost due to both corrosion and frame prep. I am now in the process of clearing title and new owner registration. Much of my problems are self-inflicted by not acting sooner with the DMV. On a hunch while at my local dealer today, I asked the parts manager about reconciling a lost EPA sticker with the VIN number punched in it, normally residing on the ride side lower frame rail. He informed me with the correct documentation and papers, a new sticker can be ordered through BMW of NA. This sticker in combination with the stamped engine number and stamped frame number at the right frame rail gusset will enhance your efforts for a successful VIN verification procedure. Contact your local authorized BMW dealer.

That is good information.  The '83 owned by my son, Earl Phorqs, has only a partial sticker on it.  I'll have to look into that with him.

Mike,
I wonder if your parts manager would be willing to coordinate with my local parts counter person as I have been long in need of this same fix. This has caused me nothing short of a Greek tragedy in 4 parts over the years. As you well know all parts dept. are not created equal.
