Nope. It's not a Hardley rally, a WSB wheelie contest, not even a tattoo competition. It IS a pretty low key family event that focuses on cool old motorcycles.
It's the 25th edition of the North Texas Norton Owners Assn (NTNOA) Lake 'O the Pines Rally near Jefferson, Texas, October 2-4, 2009.
Quoting the NTNOA release: The rally draws over 250 people displaying over 100 of the finest vintage British, European and Pacific Rim motorcycles anywhere in the country. Join us at Lake O' the Pines just outside of Jefferson, Texas. Display your bike in the bike show, ride in the Rolling Concours and enjoy a weekend full of great entertainment and fun.
I've registered for the event and booked a B&B in Jefferson for my wife, the R65 and me. The ladies love to shop Jefferson.

BTW, Last years winner of the $750 Concours was a lady riding a vintage Airhead BMW. East Texas is beautiful in the early fall. Riding is great. Check it out. I'm there! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Ditto to what the Mont-ster says. E. Texas in the Fall is very nice with warm days and cool nights. Sometimes you can even hear the raccoons howling. Monte is your bride going to ride the El Luche Libre bike to the rally? That might be a nice little trip for the R90 to make. It's almost up to spec, I just need to fine tune the timing and have someone with a homemade manometer sync the carbs.
Lot's of nice B&B's around that area but it's also a really good time to camp. I'll have to check my social calendar but I'm thinking seriously about heading that way also. Anyone else?
-
Let me know if you guys meet up there and I'll send the flag your way for pics and signatures!
-
Better yet Aida, why don't you bring it with you when you come down. We could probably even get Justin & Barbie to saddle up for the weekend. Let's see, there's Texas Burt with his new yellow R65 and Scotty from Austin could bring that really cool sidecar rig and maybe even win the concourse event. No doubt that are a few more of us lurking about. Anyone, anyone, Bueller, Bueller....?
-
I will have to change my plans for that weekend. Normally go to Shilo but this could be more fun. Will have to get the R65 cleaned up for the show.

ARRRGH! TX_Patsy and I were about to start planning for the Rally, when I happened to notice the dates... Our social calendar is so light that I hadn't even thought of a weekend conflict, but this one happens to be business. Our offices start moving to our new building in Plano on Thursday, and we've been invited to come in on Sunday to unpack a few boxes and get things squared away for business as usual on Monday. BUT If that moving date gets postponed [again] we're in!
Montmil-- mind sharing your Jefferson B&B recommendation?
-
Burt, We're booked into the Hale House Inn.
The LOP rally big business is usually Friday afternoon and Saturday. Sunday is full of trailer, camper and truck loading so you'd probably be able to scoot home to Plano and show up a bit late on Sunday. If asked, tell 'em you were ushering at chapel.
Lots of vintage bikes. The NTNOA site has photos from prior rally events. The bikes look bloody marvelous.

Looks as if we're gonna need that R65 flag at the NTNOA Lake 'O the Pines Rally Oct 2-4, 2009. Yee Haw! So far, three R65 dot orgers and significant others are committed to attend the Rally.
MsBuck, I'll PM you for the flag plus remember to charge the digi camera battery before leaving the house.
Plenty room for more. For add'l info, please contact me here or PM if you're considering this family-oriented event.

I saw 3 R65s at a vintage BMW show in Champoeg State Park today but didn't meet the riders. Anybody on this board? I rode my Triumph so it had to park with a bunch of oil heads.
-
Sounds like a good time. I'll send the flag on to you when I return from the MotoGP races at Indy.

DANG. I'm out of the LoP Rally... Just cancelled our room (have 6 months to use the credit). I'm having back surgery on 12/8, and it's gotten bad enough (back pain and leg weakness) that the only part of the trip I could enjoy would be the ride over-- couldn't handle the stairs at the B&B or walking around to look at those gorgeous classic bikes (wearing my new R65 cap(s).
By 2010 I should be able to run and play (and ride) with the other children, though my orthopedist cheerfully added that I would never be totally without discomfort. He fully understands that I'm quite comfortable on my motorcycle, however-- smart man!

I just had my knee chopped on Monday so I won't be on two wheels for a while...
-
It sounds like alot of fun - but no way I can go.
Justin, you should still think of going, just take the car, or see if Scotty will swing by to pick you up in his sidecar !
-
Justin, we could either strap you down to Monte's trailer or let you ride in the bed of his cool pickup.
Seriously, sorry to hear about your knee. I know you said you had a spinal the other day. Hope the recovery goes well.
-
That'd be kinda like takin' a shower with a rain-suit on...
-
Things have changed with me for that weekend. I will not beable to make it. Will be going to Oak Hill raceway near Henderson for the races this weekend. Will go on sunday for the sprint races.

Dang it....won't be many new signatures on that flag, will there?
-
At least three of us. Still better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick! Monte said he has the flag. If we see any other '65s there we'll do some recruiting.
