Title: MY NEW MOA National plans
Post by: Rob Valdez 79 R65 on June 18, 2009, 09:42:18 PM
Basically this, I won't be there.
I'm trying to save up either for a new (used) car, and I really need the $400 or so that I would drop on this trip for a down payment.

Sorry folks.

But I have a room reserved if anyone is interested.
It is the Comfort Inn (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=motel&sll=36.475584,-82.48945&sspn=0.011181,0.019312&ie=UTF8&ll=36.476757,-82.48945&spn=0.011181,0.019312&z=16&iwloc=A) South Kingsport, at Interstate 81 and 36.

I have Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights reserved.  It's a single, but with two beds, I believe.

If anyone wants any details, let me know.  I will probably cancel the reservation in a few days.

Aïda, I need your address so I can get the flag to you!

Rob, very sorry to hear you can't make the rally, but I know how those kinda things can go. I may be interested in your room reservation, since I plan to go but have so far made -0- arrangements  ::). Camping sounded good a few months ago, but now, sleeping in a fairground in the middle of July doesn't seem quite as exciting as it did then.

Are reservations transferable, and do you know for sure there are 2 twins in the room? $$$?
Hit me back via PM or email with some details, ok?
I'm heading to the VA mountains in the a.m. so if you don't hear back from me in time and get another offer, by all means take it.

Thanks.

Rob, looks like I won't be there either.  Maybe you should send the flag to Steve.

I will be at the BMW RA National up in WV the next weekend, though.  Anyone else headed to that one?

Steve, I am sending you a PM.

Rob, I didn't get a pm, but did get your email.

It's a leetle pricier than I had hoped, but I've put out some feelers looking for a roomie to help share the expenses. Lots of the Roanoke TVR boys  are planning to go (http://twinvalleyriders.com/, check out their great forum), so hopefully one will step up and I/we can take the room off your hands.
I'll get back to you asap, within 2-3 days max.
However, don't pass up a sure thing if another offer does come along.
Thanks a lot.

ps: As far as the flag goes, I know for a fact that SCJJ will be there with his lovely wife PattyMarie: done paid his money and everything. I'd suggest sending it to him to be 100% sure that R65 is represented.

Stewart Wallace and I are going to the national barring problems. We are leaving the RA open but I had planned on that one too. Really sorry Rob won't be there!! LRB has 3 trips under his belt one with camping gear and he's chomping at the bit to get rollin' to TN. I will buy him a Dragon sticker. I won't be riding the Dragon if it is crowded and I've done it 2 times. LRB just wants the sticker. The Wayah Rd. is great.

Geez, does it look like it will be just me and Sue at the big rally?  I'll be there, although it will be on "Blackjack" and not Britta.  Sue, if you have a cell phone, we should exchange numbers so we can get together and at least get a pic taken with the banner (provided one of us have it)!  ;)

I'm planning to be @ Johnson City too, along with my cousin on his K-bike.    I'm planning to ride my R65LS down to keep Sue's bike company at the rally - I think Sue will be leaving a day or two ahead of us and will get there first, though we're all planning to take some very rural, non-slab routes as much as possible.

I'm in the middle of recovering the seat on the R65, and trying to add a bit of foam in a few areas - may not succeed in my modification though and if not I'll be looking for an airhawk or something by the time I get to TN !

I was thinking of hitting the RA rally the following week, but after a few months of looking it appears I've got another customer so unfortunately I've gotta get back home to start work on a new project on the 22nd.

I guess old Mike, Bengt Phorqs, isn't reading this thread but he and his new bride will both be there on their scoots. See his dehydration thread.

Theresa and I will be there, she on her R1100R and me on my R100GS.  We plan on arriving sometime Thursday.  Send me a PM and I'll share my cell phone number with you.  -Mike

I will be there but on my GS.  Very much looking forward to meeting the R65 gang for the first time.  I assume I look for the R65 banner?

Depending on the day and on my supply of socially-acceptable clean clothes, I'll have my R65 hat on and/or an R65 T-shirt on every evening in the beer tent and/or by the show stage.   I'll give Sue a call on the cell or track her down in the oil change venue.

Looking forward to seeing some 'old' friends, and meeting some new ones!

I would just like to reiterate that I WILL BE THERE AT THE RALLY. I will even put my cell phone number up here: (864) 329-6096.

I hope to see all you folks who also will be there in person!   [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Hopefully, someone will have the R65 flag, since Rob V. has decided for one reason or another not to send it to me.  If we do not have a flag to be included in photos taken at the rally, you can all contact Rob and thank him for that.

John -

I am still planning on going, though we've had some snafus already which may end up altering plans.  My cousin's K-bike seems to have  chosen this week to chew up the crown/ring gears in his final drive - we haven't gotten any used ones anywhere through the boneyard, etc. so he is having new parts expedited thru Max's BMW here in NH.   At present, we  don't know if this will just set us back a day or so but still make it, or if I may strike out alone, or what.   I offered him my Kawasaki concours to ride, but he was too polite and nervous about doing something to it to accept it.  We'll see what happens.

I also just heard from Sue - she is still heading down but not leaving today as there is some really bad weather coming through New York State at the moment - She and Stewart will probably be leaving sometime on Sunday instead.

.. the best laid plans of mice and men, eh?

Hope you will still be there, dude!

I'll be at the rally on Thursday after noon sometime.  I did receive the R65 flag from Rob in today's mail (thanks, Rob! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]), and will touch base with Sue at the oil change venue after I get settled in, and see how we can "get the word out" to those folks on their R65s in attendance to get together for a group photo with the flag!  ;)

It's a long story, but I will be heading out during the day on Tuesday instead of today.   I had originally planned to be at the rally early on Thursday, but may be later in the day now.

Sue has my cell number.

I'll PM you with my cell # also.
