Title: R65 logo hats?
Post by: StanG on June 06, 2009, 05:17:28 PM
I would like to have a hat with the club's R65 logo and the BMW logo.  Does the club have hats for sale or would I need to locate the art work and have my own made?  If you have done this before and have any advise it would be welcome.

The site moderator Justin B. had hats and t-shirts made up a few years ago, don't know if he still has any unsold still laying around or not .

Thankfully they are all gone!  :P  But, I suppose with the new crop of members and the url changing it might be time for another batch...

I thought it would be nice to have an R65 hat at the MOA rally.

And while were at it, I've added a new jacket since the last of the patches have been offered. Was it Melina who had the artwork? I'd like to get another and would be willing to go and have more stitched.

Yeah, Melena did the patch thing...

I hear ya!  If you want to do it, I'll definitely send you what I have.   I'll send the picture it was taken off of and a good picture so you can show them what it's supposed to look like.

Oh, and I guess you'll have to change the website from www.r65.org to www.bmwr65.org.  That would be a nice update.   I'll bet lots of people would like one or more.  I know Aussie mentioned that he does.

I'll PM you Rich.

Just a tip for those wanting their own Beemer embroidered stuff...

If you have some black & white atrwork of the BMW logo plus a quick sketch of whatever else you want with it, embroidery shops can scan the art plus add the print copy in a type font of your choosing. Hats, embroidered polo shirts (my fav), logos directly stitched onto your jacket... Blah, blah, blah.

Check it out locally. Several scooter trash buds at work have had their own custom ball caps made with logo and verbiage.

I vote for more flashlights.

Yeah - ya can't have too many torches (flashlights to those of us who may wish to continue to butcher the Queen's English  ::) .... and Melena does a pretty nifty side line in BMW hats....(though I'm pretty sure it may clash with my hair style - or lack of it.... :D)

I'd also spring for a couple of new long sleeved t-shirts - I just love the one I have - and oh, Melena is correct... I'm interested in a patch as well...

I don't know why living in the north of England but....I'd love a couple of T-shirts.

We Brits don't seem to do hats nowadays!

Maybe we need to get ourselves organized again and put up a little 'store'.. maybe we could figure out how to get a few bucks from each item sold to go toward the cost of maintaining the website, etc?

If Justin and Melena are too busy, I might see if I can help out somehow - there is a shirt screen printing/embroidering business nearby in the next town - I can check their prices to see if they'd be competitive to what Justin was able to score..   If I don't get some new clients soon, I may end up with more time on my hands than I care for. :(

The time isn't the issue, if everybody is agreed on another whatever I'll get the ball rolling.  The issue with having a "store" is it's hard enough tieing up several hundred dollars for a short-term let alone stocking a "store" with colors and sizes that I might get stuck with because nobody wants them.  It took me several months to finally get rid of everything from the last hat purchase...

So, what's it gonna be, hats or T-shirts?

There's always cafepress.  You just sign up, design the items you want and they handle everything else.  I haven't done it myself, but it might be worth checking out.  I'm not sure how the prices compare either...

Aida, I think you have a good idea there.  I have a feeling that the prices are based on how many you order, though.  So, a certain amount would have to be ordered to get a better price.  But, it looks like once the design is there you can use it again.  I can't tell how that works though and how each person would order their own.  I don't see that they do patches either.

Rich, the modified version looks great!

Maybe cafepress would give us an acceptable deal, but I bought a couple T shirts from them this past winter from their "stock" offerings (T-shirts that say "Evil Mutant Science Teacher" for my wife and one of her teacher friends) and they were probably the most expensive T-shirts I've ever bought - and that includes buying T-shirts @ rock concerts! :D

But you are correct, once the stencil is made or the pattern is programmed into the embroidery machine and file saved, there should be no more 'NRE' charges, though some might still charge a setup fee for each batch.

With cafepress, you simply go in and pick which items you want to sell in 'your shop'.  You upload the artwork yourself - they don't do they art prep as far as I can tell.  Then you decide how much 'markup' if any you want to sell on each item.  The extra $ goes back to the owner of the shop.  I have a feeling their starting prices are not 'bargain' prices and I've never purchased anything from them.  No need to send in a big order at all - just set up the shop and let everyone order as they want.  (I don't think I saw any patches either, Melena.)

I have family coming to visit this weekend, but maybe I'll have time to set something up next week.  Unless, of course, someone else has the time and initiative to go for it! Here is a link that gives info on the Basic storefront...

How about polo shirts?
Title: Re: R65 logo hats?
Post by: nhmaf on June 12, 2009, 10:01:59 PM
I see that there are some designs being sold on polo/golf shirts (what is the difference?) and also hooded sweatshirts and hats.  Depending on what design(er)s specified for the design, somethings are available in different articles of clothing than others, but presumably they can do most anything, including stickers.   Kinda pricey goods, but once setup it would be fairly hassle-free, I think.

There are even logos on ladies' unmentionables for sale in some of those merchandize categories.  Though I for one am not interested in an BMW R65-thong, we may have some folks that would be..
 ;D

Well, I went out and checked a few items available (I have access to Motomark1's storefront:  http://www.cafepress.com/motomark1) and although patches are not available, lots of choices abound in shirts/hats/bags/stickers...even a yard sign or banner!

I'll be glad to try to work something up next week.  Rich, do you have that updated patch in a png format?  They work better than jpgs for these folks.  I'm pretty sure this stuff is NOT embroidered, just printed.  But it's an option instead of someone having to put out a lot of upfront money to get a batch ordered (then having the hassle of collecting payment, shipping, etc.)

Anyone else with files that they would like to see on shirts/hats, speak up and we'll get what we can.

<Jumping up and down a waving his hand in the air>

Oh, OH. Pleaaaaaaaaassssssssseeeee Sir - pick me.

I vote for the long t-shirts. I just love 'em and they are not that common in the land down under......(or should that be the land that time forgot  ::))

I would guess that shirts (of various types) are generally more widely used and popular than hats.  I do like my R65 hat, but I also have about 2 dozen or so other similar hats of various kinds, and one doesn't generally bring along several hats to a rally, etc, whereas one often needs at least a couple shirts.  Unfortunately it doesn't seem like they do flashlights/torches - those that Justin found for us last year were quite nice - even if our web name has changed since then.

I vote that we start with some shirts, and depending on how well it goes, we later decide to expand into other articles or try a different source/plan.  JMHO, of course.

I'll see what I can find in the shirt department.
