There seem to be a handful of folks who are having login problems. So far, I think the only thing these folks have in common are using multiple systems to access the forum.
I'm a little fuzzy about how YaBB keeps track of somebody's login status but I think it sets a cookie on your machine. This cookie is also tied to the IP address that was being used when the cookie was created. It's possible (likely) that if somebody logs in on one PC, goes to a different location and tries to log in to the forum, it might get confused and feel a hacker is trying to spoof an IP address as the user's IP no longer matches what was set in the cookie.
I have logged in as several of these users and have had no problems which seems to support YaBB Support's theory that is is a workstation related issue. Support agrees that all of the affected users dump their internet cache and delete all cookies on the affected machines. I also read that web accelerator programs might also cause issues like this.
I have posted on YaBB's Support Forum and am trying out suggestions so if any of you have had this problem, and it's mysteriously went away let me know. I have also inquired as to whether there is an internal YaBB mechanism I can invoke to manually modify a user's login status (as far as YaBB is concerned).
Apparently the new forum software handles logins differently from before, perhaps this is an unintended result of trying to close loopholes that hackers and spammers exploit.

I have also just now set the login cookies to expire after 12 hours so maybe this will not be an issue after they start expiring. I'm grasping at straws, here...
-
In reference to the "login cookies to expire " setting, this can be changed by you when you log in but for testing purposes please don't change. Users that can log in from some machines but not others, then maybe set it to a lower value and see what happens.

Justin
I have deleted the cookies on 2 of the computers and this did not make and change. Still showing that I am a guest but at the bottom it shows I am online. One computer is XP the other is Vista.

I don't know what to say. I am doing a "from scratch" install into another domain and we'll try this again...
-
No big deal right know as long as this computer stay up. This was the original that I started with this forum. I may get setup as another user to log in and see what happens that way.

Please keep us updated!
I am at work now, and got in easily, first try.
I'll try again at home tomorrow afternoon. I will clear cookies and stuff, first, just to be sure.

I hope this works, I'm about at the end of my rope! I now remember what I don't miss about doing this kind of stuff for a living. Much easier to take a chunk of metal and make something out of it!

Are you in a semi (forced, I assume) retirement? With these late nights devoted to the forum, I wondered.
-
No, right now my work "week" is Friday - Sunday from 06:00 - 18:30. Work 36 hours and get paid for 40 - such a deal...
-
Whatever you did last night, solved my problem !!
I've also gone to all of the computers at work this morning, that I logged on to over the past few years and deleted all the cookies.
Great to be back again !!!!
-
Same here Justin! Whatever you did solved my problem as well. Still haven't tried my home computer but the one at the office logged right in this morning. Prior to today, the only way I could log in was on my iPhone. Thanks for all the hard work!

I am in also.
Don ;D ;D ;D

Well, I feel better now... I think I'll leave things as they are for a while and let stuff calm down before I do anything else...
-
Justin, I'm back in the saddle again. I think the problem was not having logged off of the various computers I use (three). Yesterday I totally shut down each one of them and stayed off of the forum for 12 hours. That seemed to do the trick.
Now to get caught up on what I've missed. Thanks again!
-
Well, I reinstalled the forum on a different domain but left it one version behind the one I installed Monday. We'll see what happens...
-
I'm on!
Yesterday couldn't, today I am. Tried last night at home and you were doing the maintenance on it. Whatever you did seemed to work! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
But it looks like we're missing some of our smileys. That's okay. We'll get them back. One thing at a time.
Good work Justin!

I restored the Smilies and the attachments this morning. I was not thinking too clearly when I got this mess reinstalled (about 01:00 this morning) :P and figured I'd call it a day/night/morning before I totally FUBARed something! ;)
If anybody else sees something missing just let me know. I'm still experimenting with some of the multitude of new configuration options but I'll try not to do anything that will cause y'all a heart attack! :D

Lou, just a coincidence. I reinstalled the forum into a different domain while y'all were snug in your beds last night. This morning the forum was running on a different version on it's own domain bmwr65.org.
