[size=14]Hello there everyone. I'm happy to introduce myself after lurking on this forum since early this year when I first bought my 79' R65 (below). I did not expect that that such a good measure of the satisfaction I take from the endeavor of becoming a motorcyclist would come from participating in the community of interesting and immensely generous enthusiasts who also ride these bikes.

The day after my purchase I quickly became an Airhead, lustily trolling the tech-archive email list (mostly absorbing nomenclature and the culture since, at the time, my bike ran perfectly) and this forum only to be pleasantly surprised that San Diego, where I live, is the home of a few significant 'heads of distinction, themselves a treasure trove of information and warm welcomes for the newbie.

That being said, I know of only a few R65 owners, a few of which happily approached me in parking lots or parked outside of this or that cafe around town. Scarcity of owners and the bikes idiosyncrasies relative to other airhead models makes this forum a valuable resource to connect with other riders and wrenches.

These days I'm riding two bikes: the R65 around town (until it started giving me trouble - more on that later) and the R100R for longer trips, freeway and two-up.[/size]

[size=14]When not riding, I sub-divide my time (usually inelegantly) between dancing, teaching, performing and IT work (pays the bills). On returning to San Diego from Amsterdam (where I worked in a performing troupe of improvisers for a few years) I resolved to make the most of the San Diego climate (by riding, of course!) in the face of a declining dollar, compared to the Euro at least, and an even grimmer outlook for artists and performers who wish to reside here. It seemed that these more than minor deficiencies were worth the not-insignificant comforts of, for one, decent Mexican food and a climate that didn't seek to drown one in the drippy depression of Holland's nearly year-round gray gloom.

It didn't take long to decide that riding was the way to make sense of being here (again), while sating my wanderlust and providing definition to what I had began to recognize abroad (much to my surprise) as an affinity for this land itself, this America, it's vastness, diversity and accessibility, especially to the rider.

Welcome aboard!  

What do you teach?  I tried to get a minor in dance, but couldn't wedge it in between all the science classes with their labs.

Great intro and a beautiful pair of luftkopfs you have there. Been up and down the PCH but not to San Diego, I'll have to look ya up!

Seriously - you seem to have a couple of nice bikes there.

If you need a job teaching..well lets just say I know of a school that is desperate for a dance teacher...

Hello there Ed. These days I'm teaching Contact Improvisation and Contemporary Technique with an occasional Ballet class, here at a small studio in San Diego: http://stage7.com

Occasionally I get over to the Netherlands for a week or two in one of the many dance academies. Here in the states, universities require a masters in dance (beats me since most dancers I know didn't enter the profession through academia), which I don't have, so teaching options are limited to the community at large.

Never too late to start dancing,

B. Jan went a long way to convincing to buy this ride. Apparently his bike is an exact match (nice to have a local with spare parts) and they don't come up for sale very often. Myself, I have still have much learn about the ins-and-outs of this model.

Hello Aussie. You know, I'd leap at the chance to teach for a while in AU. Get my flight covered and I'm there, for a short while at least.

No relation to James but in the states I'm often asked about Jim.
