Title: I LOVE TROLLE!!!!!
Post by: Rob Valdez 79 R65 on November 04, 2008, 05:42:27 PM

Trolle, knowing of both my crash a month ago (today) and my love of my beinschilders (leg shields) sent me a note alerting me to these beautiful pieces.  I still don't know the condition of my bike, or my left leg shield, (this weekend?)

Look at the BEAUTIFUL FRIGGING leg shields I won on ebay today!  (35 Euros!)

As for my old ones, I still don't know what the left one looks like.  Hopefully this weekend for sure I will bring the R65 home to roost.

And yet this set (http://cgi.ebay.de/BMW-alle-R-Modelle-Beinschilder-von-Fa-Heinrich-Jeckel_W0QQitemZ180302641169QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item180302641169&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1229%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318) went for almost 3 times what I am paying!

Good score, Rob !

Hopefully the shipping doesn't double the price of your purchase.

Oh, it will, but I already knew that.

I will have to go back and see what I paid for the first set.  I think it was 70€ or better, + shipping.  I think it was at least 100€ total.

As beautiful as these appear, 25€ is chump change!  The seller est. 35-45€ for shipping.

These things blow my mind. Are they BMW accessories or some aftermarket thingies? Rob, if you have any old pre crash photos I'd love to see what all the fuss is about. Now that you have yours I may have to look for mine!

Hey Rich,

I'm afraid my old ones are tentatively spoken for.  I met a guy at the Boxerworks rally last May and he really went nuts over them.
He helped me out that weekend, so I am giving him first refusal.

I still have not seen my bike (this weekend?), but the guy that is storing it for me said, to the best of his recollection, that it was scraped up some, but not busted up as I imagined.  I mean, my left jug put a hole in the R1200GS' final drive!  I don't see how the shield survived being that close to his alum. box saddlebag.

Anyway, here is my gallery of pictures: http://www.pbase.com/tomfarr/leg_shields

Hi Rob

You are doing wonders for my self esteem!

Congratulations on your newest purchase and I find that you deserve the luck.

I got my 220 mm headlight for the RS-fairing today - €40~$50 - and that was below average. The headlight is in top condition and the last item I need for my great rebuild from S to RS. Now I only need to make an appointment with the guy who will paint all the parts and I'm off.

What's the fun of having a bike if you can't take it apart and assemble it once in a while? Yes I know, driving it of course, but apart from that?

greetings from a now sunny north with wet roads. Fair conditions for the prudent rider.

PS For those of you who woted for Obama, Congratulations, and for those who did not: Have faith, he cannot be worse than Bush!

Sorry Rich, I did not answer you question.

Aftermarket.

Heinrich (the fuel tank people) originally made them.  A company in Germany called Theofried Jeckel makes them, but the last time I tried contacting them, they never replied, plus I got bad press about them from another parts dealer over there that I have dealt with a few times now.
I see the have updated their website, and the actually have some English (on their Contact page only...) requesting that you contact them with querys.  http://www.jeckel-motorradzubehoer.de/

So far, they seem plentiful on the German eBay market.
Most Germans these days have a good working knowledge of English, at least.  Don't waste your time with online translators when communicating.  Just start out by asking if they are willing to ship to you, and if the can handle foreign currency.

Thanks Rob. Your an honorable man in keeping your deal with the fellow who saw 'em first. Us Westerners like that sort of thing! I'll try my luck with the German sources, and your right 'bout the translations. Tried it once and the German fellows said "stick to english".

If you like, I will put you in 2nd spot.

The fellow that liked them does not "do" computers, so I will have to relay the message through a mutual friend and that will slow things down a little.

Hey Rob - I was just having a good look at the bike - umm - where's your choke? Is that it on the handlebar?

Yes, I moved it there a long time ago.

That perch (w/choke mount) came from a /2 conversion I had built in the 80's.

When I sold the conversion, I kept certain goodies for my R65, heated handgrips and remote choke, for instance.
