I just did a rebuild on both of my carbs. The kit s came all the way from Motobins. After using a can and a half of carb cleaner, I set to work and an hour later re installed them on the boxer - It was like driving a different bike - Smoooooth - and my fuel consumption has dropped from 18 km per litre to 22 km per litre.

Let me ship you my Bings since you're current!
I need to do this, too. Have the overhaul pieces parts but the nice riding weather keeps me on the road rather than in the shop. It may get cool here around November...

Did you replace the slide needles and their jets? I've been meaning to do that, just wondering how fiddly they are.

Its past time for me to do this again... :-/

I will follow this up too! I have the new parts already. Even had a video I bought at the Rally in Gillette on "How to Service the Bing carbs" Notice the word "Had".
Anyway, the bike did run well and the gas mileage was good but need to check on all this to make sure. Haven't been riding. I figured i'd work on the carbs when things seemed to not be working so well?!

Does the kit include the rubber vacuum bellows? I've always worried about what might happen if these ever deteriorate. It looks like it might be a gobstopping expensive part that can't be 'fashioned' on my own like so many of the parts I replace.
If it's too dear, I might consider replacing them with some new Mikunis. Anyone else ever considered or done this?

edit: I have "flat top" Bings. They are different from the "dome top" Bings in the way the diaphragm is held in place.
What style are yours?
The rubber diaphragms are usually not included on the R65 kit. But they are replaceable, and are not that expensive. You would do well to replace the white ring that holds them in place, as well, though.

I personally don't recommend the Mikunis, unless you are going racing.

I did not replace jets , or needles. Just all the rubber bits - and 1 cork gasket that Motobins sent me. I have a spare kit and can photograph it if anyone wants to have a look,

My Bing overhauls kits from Chicago BMW included the vacuum diaphragms, gaskets and O-rings. About $52.00 as I recall. Chicago had 'em in stock and I received them in less than a week.
