Ran across this listing of R65 owners. Made interesting reading.

Yep, I thought there was a sticky to that somewhere. My R65 is on it. I like to browse by mileage; I would think Thrang should be on the front page but I don't know his real name. I would like to meat the owner of Deerslayer, Jim von Stein. He lives fairly close to me but I've never seen him at any Airheads events.
I would think that Arlie's bike should be on the front or second page, but maybe Chris in BC hasn't bothered to put it on there.

I made an entry there, and Rob Valdez sent me an email inviting me to take a look at the R65.org site, that was about 5 years ago , I think.

I found my bike there. The PO had it on there and it was for sale. Not only that but he lives just a few miles from me. I think it must have been meant to be! ;)
I did notice that the entry was'nt there any more after I bought it from him. I've meant to, but I haven't put mine on there yet in my name. I'll have to do that.

Looks like Rob Valdez updated his entry there today.
Along with Ed Miller.

Yeah, I even started to reply to this thread, but got sidetracked.
I found my photo link didn't work, so I updated it.
Too bad they don't have the origination date on their database.

I was updating my mileage. :-)

Howdy,
I'd like to log my 79 R65 on the registry but my frame and engine don't match. The bike is registered and insured on the frame VIN....any suggestions? Thanks!
-
The frame VIN is the controlling number, some later R65's (the monoshock models) came from the factory with different numbers on the frame and engine.
-
Hey Bob,
So on your 81 the frame matches the engine? I've been under the impression that my early model bike is a combination of two different R65's. The VIN (frame) is 6381540 and the Engine "VIN" is 6381032. Close enough. :D

If your bike is like mine, Spinachpie, it has received a replacement engine somewhere along the line. (Mine broke a connecting rod...)
I think the frame # would be the one to use, in this application.
-
Yes they are the same numbers, the engine number is the last 7 characters of the frame number.
The serial numbers that you gave for your bike and engine, 6381540 has a date of manufacture of 03/79, and 6381032 has a date of 02/79.

Usually the frame VIN is the one of record. Unless you live here in Arizona, in that case Motor Vehicles just makes one up and then challenges you on it several years later. long story just venting a pet peeve!
