Title: OK, here's my "new" R65
Post by: montmil on April 06, 2008, 06:41:03 PM
Such a deal! I bought this scooter on Saturday 05 April 2008 in Austin, Texas. PO now lives in Washington DC - why, I have no idea - and wanted to unload it rather than try and move it.

It's a 1981 R65 in fairly virgin condition. Has the R65LS black mufflers and a few deferred maintenance items needing to be handled. But it's mine and I will treat 'er nice.

Will follow up with a few tech questions plus add a WTB for the side panels in the proper site location.

Great find! I'm becoming more partial to the classic black with pinstripes the more I see of 'em. congratulations on a new addiction!

Welcome to our little corner of the BMW universe!  You'll find lots of knowledgeable folks here who can help you if you run into any snags getting your bike in proper running condition.

I like the black LS mufflers with the black paint work!  I think when you're all done, it will look real "stealth-like"!   ;)

Keep us posted along the way with more pics!

Ride it like ya stole it!

Very nice.  I've always admired "Basic Black" (goes with everything).    :D

Seriously,  nice find.

Austin should have great riding weather.  Gotta nephew on a "Crotch Rocket" there.  Says he rides all the time.

Enjoy & let us know how it's coming along.  I've had mine since December and still procrastinating on the dreaded "Spline Lube".

Looks like it has great potential.  Ride it on down, today, Denton's not that far.  I bought my '95 RT from somebody in Denton.

Austin IS a cool riding location along with the nearby Texas Hill Country. Unfortunately, I live in Denton, Texas which is approx 30 miles north of Big D.

The wife of the gentleman who was selling the bike for an absentee owner said, "You drove all the way from Denton just to look at a motorcycle?"  She simply does not "understand" the addiction.  :-?

Gotta replace the front fork seals first. One has puked its entire contents and the other, well, best to do 'em both. Made for a rather wicked test drive.  :o

Thanks for the response to my PM regarding the shift linkage. Will PayPal you pronto. Regards,
