Title: Newbie, take 2
Post by: KHAN on February 10, 2008, 03:23:56 PM
Hello All!
I am here in the NC mountains on a very windy day and the power is going on and off.  My first attempt to post was wiped out by some surging.  Anyways, I have had a '84 R65LS (silver) for a couple of years and have been breaking it in on the Blue Ridge Parkway (just 12 miles up the road from me).  It is a great little bike and is fairly stock, with my having changed to a stainless exhaust and adding a Progressive windscreen.  It is up to 28K miles and running strong.

I want to make one change soon, as a neck injury makes the low bars somewhat uncomfortable.  Any suggestions on some taller chrome or silver bars that I could change to without too many modifications would be appreciated.  Somewhat wider would be okay, but basically, I just want to be more upright.  Thanks for any help with this.

I would like to ride to the MOA rally in Wyoming this summer, as I have some friends out there in Casper that I would like to see.  Perhaps I will see some of you there.  Meanwhile, I will be putting in more miles on the BRP and in these NC mountains.  Look forward to be a part of this.
KHAN

Welcome, have fun here.

Bar choices have been discussed in the past so try the search or if you post a specific question down in the Tech section it might get a better response.

Welcome KHAN
Take a look at your cables. If you haven't enough slack in the cables, you need to replace them also.
I beleive you might find somebody who'll trade for your low bars.
Lots a folk love em. And I think you can use the same cables.
Like Justin said go to the tech forum & try the trading post, too.

There are 2 or 3 of us that meet up at Willville Motorcycle campground now and then up in Virginia (Meadows of Dan, just north of Fancy Gap)  It'd be great to get all of us together sometime.  Maybe we can try to meet up at a campground closer to you, like Blue Ridge Cycle Campground in Cruso, NC or High Country Campground in Ferguson, NC.  Anything close to the BRP is a winner in my book!  I have to travel at least 3 hours to get there, so I'm very envious of your short trip to get there!

Welcome aboard!

Willville is a place I get to once or twice a year.  It is a great place to camp and wonderful roads to ride all around.  I think I may have met you and your husband there a couple of years back.  I was on my R65LS and you guys had 2 Laverdas (maybe).  You were looking at my bike and made mention of working at the Raleigh area dealership.  But then, my memory isn't what it used to be.

I will let you know when I can get a long weekend in the spring to head up that way.   It has been rainy or cold lately, and I have a cold, so the bike has been sitting for a couple of weeks.  It'll be out soon.  Let me know if you get down to this area.

About bars, I'm still on the fence about going to low bars from my U.S. spec. Flanders has a nice selection that may suit ya. Have a look. You may need to change some cables / brake hose as well but all in the name of a proper fit.

Yes, that was us.  We're headed up to Willville for his opening weekend, April 4-6th.  I think NC Steve may be coming up on Saturday as well.  It'd be great to have another little gathering.  Maybe you can make it up then.
