Hi, all. thought this would be interesting to all the R-65 er's out there. I was at the Classic Motorcycle day at Germantown Md, on Sunday. A very well attended event, with BMW as the featured Marque[sp?] In the Modern Class, 80' to 86', there were probably 20-25 entries, Anniv. RS's, some nice RT's and a rather clean GS. The 1st place winner was a very nice R65LS, owned by a gentleman from Va. and the 2nd place winner was an almost as nice 86' R-65,[ mine... I had to tell someone that might care!] Maybe the R65 is getting the respect it deserves! rj [newbie here]

Congrats on your showing, rj, and glad to have you aboard. There are only a couple other mono-shockers here so you in a rather exclusive group.

Yes, congrats indeed, Rob. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
I've heard that the show had a great turnout, and that there was something there for everyone.
In fact, here's a couple of photo links I "borrowed" from posters on another forum: hope they don't mind others admiring their pics.
Maybe you'll see yourself in there somewhere. Some very nice stuff!

Boy, that is one sweet collection of bikes! ;)
I was kind of hoping to see a pic of YOUR bike, Tricyclerob! Got one you can post?

I have to admit, I'm a bit computer challenged, except for managing to buy cycle parts which I seem to have figured out quite well. I'll see if I can get my youngest to help w/a photo post. I thought I might have a chance with my R65, as being orig.considered an "entry level" bike by BMW, seems many were "rid hard, put away wet, and parked behind the shed when the battery went flat". I parked in the line up, and there were a number of nice bikes. then I walked dn. the row and there was a really nice LS. I thought they were just giving 1 trophy per class, and was quite shocked when my name was called. It was real nice considering all my bikes are "riders" not "under glass garage queens" Youngest just showed up, let me try a photo. rj

A lot of shows have "unrestored" categories, at least the ones I used to help put on did...

Nice!

The Bimbo won an unrestored class award at the South Lakes Classic & Custom a few years back.

Love to win those trophies! LRB and I were very surprised to win a 5th, then a 4th, over 2 years at the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group's national rally......Thank goodness they give out more than one winning prize as you can see. I guess the winning LS at this show was probably near perfect.
Congratulations Rob on the 86's trophy!

I owned one of these for a few months. I bought it with a credit card during the crashing of my marriage (after she had already left...). Consequently I didn't own it very long. But I did sell it to a Honda dealer in Williamsport, PA that has a great museum. I wonder if this is the one?
Now THAT is unobtanium. With street gear they were non-imports. Honda began importing track models to the US a few years ago.
another sellers remourse...
