Hi there, Kikoth! Welcome to our little corner of the BMW kingdom! Don't worry about your English, either! Most of us here aren't much better, and we live here! ;D
It looks like you have an R60 AND an R65LS, correct? Color me green with envy!! [smiley=happy.gif] I've always wanted to own an older Airhead like an R60!
Maybe you can post a couple of photos of your two bikes!
Again, welcome, and we hope you enjoy being part of our zoo! ;)
-
hi John,
thank you for your kind welcome...
i'm sorry but...TURN GREEN !!!
got both of them...
the R60/5 is 1972, and the R65LS is 1983...
i tried to join a picture, but it's too heavy ( according to the bike !!! ;D ) so i'll try to email one of each to you...
( i saw on the topics why it doesn't work, it's ok... )
i close for the moment and go to try with e-mail...
good afternoon, everybody !!!
-
hi again,
seems to work, you might have them in a few seconds...
by the way, what time is it where you live ?
here it's the end of a sunny afternoon ( around 6 pm ) in the south of france,
the right time for a ...Bud ! of course !!! :P
enjoy your life !!! ;)

Bonjour Chris !

hello everybody,
thanks to you, Mike, and Mr Riden... ;)
i'm glad i can be useful, Mike, even if it is not by my mechanicals skills... but everybody gives...what he has, ugh ? :-[
Mr Riden, is it your R65LS on the picture ? if yes, i'll join the John's club of green people !!! i'm very found of the original fairing, i'm ok for an exchange with my RT's !
by the way, if one one you, beemers, ear about an original fairing ( even if it is not as perfect as Mr Ridens', 8-) ) i'm quite interested !!!
I find out now that on the only 6389 LS BMW made, most of them live in the US !
congratulations to all you people, most of them i've seen here until now are in a VERY GOOD condition...
i'll try again to post a picture of each...

Umm, can you guys translate for those of us who don't know French? :-?
Welcome, Chris. [smiley=beerchug.gif] Glad to have you here. Sorry I don't know French, though. But your English is very good, so no problems. It's not too hard to post a picture. Sometimes you have to make a smaller copy to post though so it will show up. There is some information about posting pictures. There should be a thread about that at the top ot the General Announcements category.
We all love seeing the places others ride, so it would be wonderful to see your pictures.
Here's one of me and my 1983 R65. [smiley=cool.gif]
-
Thans to you, Melena (looks like a sporty RS frame, no ? )
i understand the idea for posting pictures, Justin explained it well on the top of the forum, but in reality i'm quite new with internet an pc, so i have to learn more about all that stuff ( looks like it's easyer to ride !!! ;D )
so i'll take the time and will be back with more skills and pictures !!!
have a Bud on me !!! [smiley=beer.gif]
-
No, not an RS frame that I know of. The after market fairing may give it that look though - makes it look a little sportier. 8-)
You'll get the hang of it. Riding and wrenching or surfing the internet and posting pictures both just take practice. There is always something new to learn about all of those things. ;D
-
hello everybody !
i did it...have to wait a little for the pages to be referenced by google, and then ( may be ! ) it will work... [smiley=behead.gif]
while waiting, everybody who has pictures of " unusual " fairings on R65, like kawasaki or moto guzzi ones, is welcome to send pictures on the forum or to my box : jandelli-christophe@orange.fr ( not to stress the forum's memory... )
i mean, there in europe doesn't look possible to find the original LS fairing, so why not to try something really different ? i got a " problem " with the RT fairing, which is so heavy for the LS fork... would like to find one with less weight, and which doesn't break the esthetic line of the LS... all your ideas welcome...
enjoy today ! ::)

Greetings, Msr. Frog! ;) Someday explain to me the origin of Frog as a nickname, I often hear the French referred to as frogs by their Brit neighbors.
Don't worry about weight, that's what stiffer fork springs are for! ;D I have a 1980 R65 with a copy of an RS fairing on it that does very well with the additional weight now that heavy duty progressive fork springs are in the forks. I would just pick something that you like the looks of and go for it! It's your bike and YOU are the only one that needs to be happy with it - everybody else can go take a flying f..., well you get the idea...
-
Chris,
I'm not sure if it is still available, or what the cost would be to ship it from the U.S. to France,
but there is someone on the Boxerworks forum who has an R65LS fairing for sale:
http://www.boxerworks.com/market.phtml
-
Hi, Justin...
thanks for your good advices... i confirm the RS fairing fits your bike very well,
i was thinking about it, that's the reason why last week i bought one ! but it makes me earn time to see the result on yours, even if the picture is quite small...
may be when you have time you could send a few pics...
the RS fairing i bought needs to be repared, and painted... i think i'm gonna fancy a deep, shining black ! i surely will do the same on the whole bike, which needs a wind of youth...
i'll tell you more later on, have to go to visit boxerworks ( thanks, nhmaf ! [smiley=beerchug.gif] )
have a nice day, everybody !
-
hello again,
i went on Boxerworks, looks like it hasn't been sold yet, i'm waiting for pictures...
i'll tell you more !!!
thank you everybody,
make today yours...

Hi to everyone from by now, HOT Guadalajara, good to see a growing forum... Notice your center stand Justin...would you tell us more about it, it is robust isn't it?
Saludos,
Lucio
-
Yeah, is that one of those Reynold's Ride-Off stands, Justin? (Or is it made by Brown?) :-?
-
hi there,
i just get the picture...
Lucio is right, tell us more, and first of all, did YOU do it ???
for the fairing, it fits VERY WELL your bike !!! [smiley=beerchug.gif] and the colour is quite fine !
i imagine it in the deep black i want for mine, sounds good !!!
for my web page ( if google wants at least ... ) the link is :
http://monsite.orange.fr/kikoth/ still doesn't work but it might happen !
Justin, let me tell you more about " frogs " !!!
the whole story is that most of the french people use to eat frog's legs, ( not me, i'm a veg', and i live in the country close to the nature, so i enjoy frogs like birds, but NOT in my plate !!! ;) ) and english people are disgusted, they fell angry with that ( as i do ) so they call french people " frogs " to remind them how primitives they are... that all , folks !!!
hope everything is ok for you all, Beemers !!!
have another great day,
chris
-
Oh, OK, I thought that maybe frog-legs might enter into the picture somewhere. I have never ate any (is this something else that "tastes just like chicken"?) but they are considered delicacies (and rather expensive) some places over here (maybe Louisiana?) as well and I might try a bite if I was ever sitting next to somebody who was eating some. The Cajun culture is deeply rooted in things French. I really don't care, people can eat whatever they like but some things I can't watch!
The stand is a Reynolds Ride-Off, but they are no longer available. :( They pop up on e-Bay now and again so if you really want one, and are patient, you should be able to find one.
The color is what Shoei calls "Anthracite". My kid bought a Shoei RF1000 helmet in that color so we had the color matched at the DuPont store and painted the bike to match the helmet.
-
hi everybody...
justin : yes, people says that taste like chicken ...
if i don't turn mad, you said your fairing is a copy ? in fact, if i look with attention, i confirm it is BUT for once i have to say that the copy is quite better than the model ! [smiley=embarassed.gif]
do you remember who did it ? any idea of the cost ( anyway , it can't be as expensive as BMW ones... )
and what about direction signals ? can't see them on the pic...
anyway, you made it perfectly, as you did for the forum !!! [smiley=beer.gif]
thanks for all that !!!
Oh, by the way, the link up there works, for anyone interested... please excuse the very bad quality of the pictures, i'll do my best this week end to do something better... as you can see the R60/5 needs to be painted, but i'm going to be obliged to sell her, so i wait for the buyer to know if he wants me to do it ( and pay for that ) or buy her cheaper as she is now... i'll keep you informed...
have a nice day everybody...
chris

i had bought a givi fairing for the r65 but my son thought it would look better on the kz650 we have (dont tell him but i think the bugger was right) and it fits nice around a stock headlamp. givi is made someplace over in the EU so maybe your prices are better than ours here. they have alot of different styles and sizes.
-
thanks to you, Jon...
i went on the GIVI site, it seems like they no more do RS / RT fairings, they seem to be concerned only by " the new generation " ...
Let's have a beer on the " poor old ones " !!! [smiley=beerchug.gif]
have a great day,
chris

I'll post my opinion on frog legs, I have been consuming them my whole life, I had relatives that resided on farms with cattle ponds and went hunting quite often in an area of rivers and small lakes, and it was quite common to take a pellet gun and go out and 'harvest' 30 or so frogs for dinner. They don't taste like chicken, but it is a mild firm meat. It all depends on what you've been exposed to throughout your life, I guess that it's the thought of what you are eating, as compared to what it actually tastes like.
-
Chris, I went over every square inch of it looking for logos, makers marks, anything, when we had it tore down to paint it and nada. I have had several knowledgeable folks look at this fairing and they concur with me that it appears to be a hand-laid true fiberglass copy and very probably a one-off. It uses a BMW windshield, BMW mirrors, and BMW upper mount and cross-bar mount. The lower brackets appear to be the only non-BMW mounting piece and are hand fabricated.
The fairing has no cutouts for the "parking light" or turn signals. If you look closely you will see some little "bumps" right in front of the mirror, they are LED stick-on amber running light/turn signal gizmos. They light up but cause the flasher to think a bulb is out so everything blinks real fast. I had originally intended to recess some sort of signals but had put so much work into fixing all of the stress and gel-coat cracks I couldn't bring myself to cut any holes back into it! Hence, the stick-ons...

well, Justin, i guess you're the kind of people able to be in the right place at the right time , you're quite lucky ! [smiley=clap.gif]
may be that's why you're the boss !!! [smiley=laugh.gif]
have a nice day,
chris
