Yup, for the first time in 31 years I rode a motorcycle on Jan. 2nd. here in Ontario Canada! Today is my big 60 [smiley=birthdays.gif] and I had planned on riding the F650GS to my brother John's 1.5 hours away but so far there is too much hoar frost on the roads. But I'll get out later in the day and go visit riding buddy David who's trying to start his R1100RT on a weak battery.
Yesterday I just could not resist un-winterizing one bike and the easiest one is the F650 as there is already gas, stabilized, in him. Had to put the battery in and the fairings back on and unplug the exhaust and lower it off the morotcycle lift but then off I went for a couple of hours around here. Met a fellow on a K100 1989 so we had a good chat..he was kinda cute but I think a touch younger. Hard to tell with a helmet on. My neighbours were cheering as I pulled out of the driveway!
What a winter!! About 40-41 deg. F for my ride yesterday. A lot windier today and still not 40 yet.
Well, there ya go..a real first..maybe I should join the "Rounders" forum now. Any big problem leaving the battery in the bike and just have it on maintenance charge from now till spring...?? That's 3.5 months away at least.
Yee. haw!!!! [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif]

Congratulations Sue on making it to the' BIG 60.' Be careful out there on questionable winter roads, I speak from experience here! You really need to take a winter off from the "Great White North" head south and become a 'Snowbird'.
-
Happy Birthday to Sue! <off key and high volume!>

Knock me over with a feather - I wouldn't have thunk it! [smiley=thud.gif]
[smiley=birthdays.gif] [size=14][ch9835] HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!! [ch9835] [/size] [smiley=birthdays.gif]
What a great present to yourself - a New Years ride up in the (supposed to be) cold north.
I'd keep the bike 'unwinterized' at least untill you get one of those snowfalls that will take forever to dig out of. We keep ours on the battery charger all the time. Although we have four bikes that he rotates the charger on every week. We've never had any problems doing that. We really don't ride much in the winter either, but you never know when you might get one of those "Indian summers'. I think we have a permanent one this winter! ;D
You know what they say, "50 is the new 30" so I guess that means that 60 must be the new 40!

Happy Birthday, Sue! :)
Congratulations from Hamburg, Germany.

Yes, Sue, Happy Birthday! [smiley=birthdays.gif] [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] No problem leaving the batterey in as long as it's a float charger that doesn't cause any acid to boil out. About all I do with mine that sit for 3-4 months is drain the carb bowls and put in Sta-Bil...

Boy, thanks so much for the B'D wishes! :-*
Today, the very day, I rode another 80 miles!!!! had to wait till the hoar frost left though. So yup, 2 days in a row and the special one is of course today's historic weather-wise ride.
Gee thanks Aïda for being so surprised at my age...of course you might have thought I looked 80!! ::) [smiley=shocked.gif] And were just too nice to say so ;D
-
I still say you look about 35, maybe 40, tops. ;)
ps: Happy Birthday!! [smiley=birthdays.gif] [smiley=clap.gif] [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] [smiley=beer.gif]

Hey Sue! Cool! [smiley=cool.gif] It's your birthday! [smiley=birthdays.gif] [smiley=clap.gif] [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif] And you got a ride in too! Wow! I knew you wouldn't be able to stand watching all that lovely weather go by without getting the bike out. And what a wonderful birthday present to yourself.
(Thanks for the excuse to finally use the birthday cake smiley - I'll get it out again in April ;) )
I like this birthday song the best:
Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday!
This is your day to have a lot of fun!
(Sung to a nice fast beat, sung with light heartedness, not the slow dirge of the regular Happy Birthday song.) [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Congratulations on the riding and Happy Birthday, Sue!
If you thought the K rider was kinda cute, who knows what you thought of me! :o
Be careful of those hoars in the road!

[size=20]Congratulations, Sue, from Southern Germany![/size]

Congrats, Sue!! [smiley=clap.gif] Good for you! Gettin' out and riding that two-wheeler! You show 'em how it's done up north!! [smiley=thumbsup.gif] [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
(BTW, we may require some proof of ID of your age. Looking at that pic you post, there ain't no way I'm lookin' at a 60 year old!) ;)

[ingenuiously] I don't know, maybe if we had a bigger version of the picture?

You caught on pretty quick Ed!
-
Let's try:
-
See, what did I say? [smiley=thud.gif]
(And NO I didn't think you were 80, sheesh!) Take the compliment and run! ;)
-
I knew that Aïda....it's just a joke my partner sometimes says....you know, you don't look a day over 80! LOL.
-
...and many more! I'm still waiting for this group to find a place and time for a campfire and some barley therapy. 8-)
BTW - IF you have a Deltran charger then you can leave it plugged in on the bike all the time. That's the way all my bikes are set. When I get home after stepping off the bike, the charger goes on. I have the dongle connected to the battery and tie-wrapped to the frame somewhere closeby for easy access.

Better late than never: Congratulations Sue! It is nice to know that the question of "eternal youth" has been solved :)
I did a small trip (60 miles) on January 29. which convinced me that the only thing missing on the wh8la2 is a pair of warm handles. They will be installed inside the next few days!
If global warming is more than a hoax, I will be driving the year round as long as the roads are dry. The worst thing of winter is the excessive amount of salt they put into the roads to keep them "black". It is very hard on the aluminum and the chrome mufflers.
greetings from a grey north with spring lurking just around the corner

Trolle, have you checked into getting your next new exhaust system ceramic coated before putting it into use?
-
So, Trolle is alive and well!! I figured we hadn't heard from you in such a long time because you were in the midst of a bike trip around the world! ;)
