Post by: Luke D. on April 19, 2017, 09:44:37 AM
Good day all, not sure if this is the right place for this (please move or change as necessary).  I was flipping through the local craigslist motorcycle ads and low and behold an R65 for sale. :)  I think he is asking quite abit buuuuut maybe not.  Check out this beaut:  https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/mcy/6079528629.html

Anybody around my area gonna pick it up? :)

If you had a Museum you were stocking his price is right. Not many left like that one "appears".

But as a rider you have to wonder with 3Kmiles, what service has ever been done to it. I'm thinking the Moly on the splines has turned to dust, steering head grease turned to solid years ago, carb rubber disintegrated, brake rubber disintegrated. How was it stored>? East coast moistrure? Bottom of the tank? brake cylinders pitted? The list goes on and on for a garage queen.

That being said, LOL, I already called him last week and chatted about the bike. I asked about the "extra muffler" he said there was a small dent on the bottom of one of them and he wanted it to be perfect........ he is 2500 miles away from me so the logistics makes it a non issue for me. Wish it was closer , would like to see if it is really a virgin

Will be interesting to see if it sells and for what price

Not just less than 3k, but less than 1k if you believe the picture.  Here's the thing about a bike that has sat that long, years and years on end.  When I bought mine, it had around 9k miles, this was in 2006.  I rode it with a casual regard for maintenance and eventually around 25-30k miles, the bottom end bearings failed.  Was it that the bike had sat so long presumably "dry" with all the oil drained to its lowest point?  My WOT riding technique?  Perhaps I missed a service interval? Sheer luck?  I honestly suspect that the long intervals with no usage played a part in the failure.

Interesting .... for odo reading he typed in 950, but in the text he says less than 3000...... that would be a question to ask. also.... the pics were taken 3/2016, over a year ago, been for sale awhile ..... maybe he started at $10,000 and has "slashed" the price to move it on out......

Joe - You might as well pick this one up, too!  Buy another in the Southeast, and another in Texas or New Mexico.  Then you can just hook up the trailer, make one big loop, and drag 'em all home!  ;D

Frustrating that there is so many VERY nice examples out there for decent money, and none of them near me.

The one i picked was priced where I can get it home and not be buried in it. The others were only good buys for me if they had been local, but after spending another 6-8 hundred to drag them hone put the cost over what I was able to pay. But really a plethora of unmolested R65's right now

You're right I could have made a big loop snagged that Blue one in Denver, the nice red one and the Museum piece(950 miles) in Minnesota, the Very nice example in Detroit and down to Virginia for that Black 81 ( that black 81 is a great buy for someone at $2800 just too far for me)
