Title: "ROAD" Movie
Post by: Oconner on July 07, 2016, 11:45:57 AM
Watched the new movie "ROAD" last night on Netflix. The story of the Dunlop family of Irish road racing. I found myself jumping out of my chair, hooting, nearly crying and truly amazed. For anyone that ever swung a leg over a bike and twisted the throttle hard down a back road this is your movie!!!! I will watch it again.  :D

It's on Google Play Movies, $AU3.99 hire.

I have not detected Google movies and TV offering different content by geography - I am able to check through having both US and UK based VPNs.

Google tends to offer most of the stuff available on iTunes and/or Netflix more or less at the same time they do. All you need is an Android phone or Tablet and a Chromecast device - Chromecasts are available in Australia for around $AU50 - best $50 I ever spent.

In fact since buying one I have given both Netflix and iTunes the heave-ho and now only subscribe to a local offering "Stan" which has a good back catalog of obscure Sci-fi and fantasy series I am interested in.

Watched Road the other evening via Netflix. Very well done production of the Irish Dunlop family's racing traditions. Vintage film of the 2-stroke years and run n' bump race starts contrasts with today's red lights off.

Production delves deeply into the Dunlop's psychology of the dangers of open road racing, life and family.

Triumph and tragedy.

It's a cracking film, one of my faves. I'm lucky enough to have met Joey and Robert a few times before they left us and they were both smashing blokes with bags of time for younger riders when racing. The world is a worse place with out them.

It is a great movie and I enjoyed it even though it reminded me a little of King Lear where everybody dies in the end. The race scenes were so well shot and I appreciated that they didn't replay the accidents over and over. Had a hard time understanding some of the interviews though.
