So before I tried a sidecar I had a second hand Brown's sidestand and loved it. Then came the sidecar and seeing no need for a sidestand I sold it to one of our members.
Jump to the present and no sidecar and an iffey centerstand I dug through my box spare "stuff" and found the worn out oem sidestand that came with the bike. What a piece of cr@9.
Had to bite the bullet and pay the price for a new Browns from Ted Porter.

This is why I seldom sell stuff that is automotive or tool related - ya never know when it is going to be needed again! I even have a backup for all my saxophones!

Half way through my "restoration" I separated from my wife, ended up sleeping on a mates sofa, and threw out a ton of stuff I thought i wouldn't ever use (including the OEM side stand). Thought i'd kept it but looked every where to no avail. After you reminding how crap they are I don't feel quite as bad about it now! Managed to pick up a second hand Surefoot from Motorworks here in the UK for not too much money. Half the paint had vanished so I decided to strip and lacquer the bare steel. Matches my tank and end seat piece pretty well! I was actually after a Brown's but no one in the uUK seems to sell them and it was going to end up £££. Surefoot is working great though.

After 30+ years in my shop, I pretty much know where my tools, left over motorcycle, and VW bits are stashed. Some even boxed up in a backyard shed. So I'm now asking myself why did I decide, just a couple months ago, to tidy up? Maybe the addition of a new 9-drawer tool chest and it's empty drawers caused me to go "off my meds". At any rate, I'm now spending time I don't have looking for my "organized" crap.
Mike, if I trip across a sax, I'll send it to you.

I'm pretty organised with my spares. I keep old bike bits that can be refurbished in boxes stashed at the back of the bikes shed. I guess I have most of the doner R65 in there, along with other odd bike parts that you never know might come in handy.
The only problem I have with my tools is when the wife who trained as a civil engineer (concrete jockey) wants say a screw driver or a spanner for something. If I'm not there I can pretty much guarantee that when I come home its looks like a bombsite with everything strewn higgledy-piggledy on the work bench!

Complain too loudly and you'll have plenty of time to tidy that work bench as you'll be sleeping with those spanners and bike bits.

I came home a while ago to find that my wife and some half-wit stone mason were using my set of expensive, European wood carving chisels as paint scrapers to scrape paint of concrete masonry...
It was not a good day.

+1 for lockable toolboxes... and hiding the keys!

Isn't that people always say "don't burn the bridge"?
I found myself just like most of us here. You don't really need it until you sold it "yesterday".
Maybe that's why the "parts department" is getting bigger.

Show wifey where your screwdrivers are stored. Everybody knows they make good chisels. Sorry man about the woodworking tools. I have some and know how they should be used.
I'd have fired the SOB on the spot... or did you find a dark spot to hide the body? ;D

Mike, are you now single and running from the law?
