Title: New Year's Day Ride photo thread
Post by: montmil on December 30, 2015, 08:08:44 AM
Doesn't have to be X-country or outta town or even on an R65 but I suggest we all attempt an Airhead ride on NYD.

Post up your photos and we'll start 2016 on two wheels.  [smiley=camera_sm.jpg]

A bit off topic, but, can you post a picture from a smart phone onto this site ??
My Photobucket account is inaccessible and my digital camera went on permanent vacation a few weeks ago .
I'll get my first ride of 2016, at 430 AM, my commute to work .

I'm not smart enough to have a Smart phone. I do have an old flip phone stashed in my sock drawer... at least that's the last place I saw it.

I posted from an Ipad which is the same. but I shrink the photo with an app called IResize, not sure what size file the forum will handle. It will all depend on the file size of the picture your phone produces.

All my photos are smart.  Get the flickr app for your phone, set it to auto upload,  then use their "BBCode" to slap it into your post.  I usually trim off the "Taken by blah blah" and "blah blah, description".

Or use any image hosting service, it'd probably work similarly with google+ or imgur or whatever the kids are using these days.

Oh, and back when I was single.. or at least didn't have a live in and kids, a New Year's day ride was mandatory.  Even in the cold in Virginia.  Gotta start the year off how you want it to be!

Road out an international rock climbing meca. Tested out the new wind screen worked well. Mt Arapiles.

I rode the R100 from the back yard to the front yard yesterday, does that count?  The Junkyard Dawg found a new home so I was able to put the R100 bak in the garage!  ;D

We have a low coming down over us, raining today and a few more...not that it stops me riding, but there are other things for me to do.  Took the Stornello out for a ride yesterday, but no pics. Did 400km on the R65 monday and tried out Pomarangai  Rd.

4 Deg C this morning and wet roads but I rode out 10 miles to a local landmark that may be recognisable around the world.

Barry,

How the hell do you keep your bike looking so clean & fresh? Don't you commute on it as well?

I certainly rode through some puddles this morning so it only looks clean from a distance, you wouldn't call it clean if you saw it close up. The annual waxoyl treatment is what keeps it looking generally good and free of corrosion when I'm commuting in the winter. Notice I have mudflaps fitted front and back which helps keep some of the muck off.

It was cold on the hands this morning. Don't our cylinder make handy warmers for the gloves.

Just back from an interesting NYE... I am toying with a ride out to check the flood damage if the roads are still open... A19 shut just east of Squires, bridges out all over the place, will it ever stop raining

Many choices of ride destinations on this beutiful first day of 2016. Decided to take a trip back to the 1970s and some of my more adventurous times. Too many camp fire stories to relate here.

The '81 R65 is parked on the perimeter road of the once extremely prosperous Cauble Ranch in Denton County, Texas. Two graves are just a couple yards off the road, in amongst a terribly overgrown and littered area. One grave contains the remains of Cutter Bill, a world champion cutting horse campaigned by Rex Cauble. The other gravesite is for Rex's pet -a monster Rhodesian Ridgeback. That dog either loved you or hated you. I was fortunate to be among the former.

Once, there were nice markers at each grave. They were there the last time I stopped but are now gone. Most likely stolen by persons infatuated by the Texas Cowboy Mafia legends.

Decided not to work for me either. I found the wiki site when I Googled ...
Texas Cowboy Mafia.  Give that a shot. Preferably a .44 Mag.

Well I didn't get a photo, left for work at 0430 and got home at 2300, didn't think a picture of an R65 at night would be worth the effort !!! ;D
