I found a complete R100 engine for free. Problem is, there's this big, freaking gaping hole under where the starter should be. Hahaha

An excellent start on your very own Airhead engine cutaway! Could become an impressive bit of coffee table art or a nice patio planter. Hey, it's free!

Aw come on Monte. A little adult beverage container shim stock, some duct tape and JB Weld and she'll be good as new! [smiley=cheesy.gif]

That thought DID enter my head! :D

My thoughts exactly, providing of course that there is no critical damage elsewhere.
I was once given a (highly desirable) "H" series VW engine that had put a rod through the LHS engine case upper. After having a careful look inside I built it back up as an 1800cc with a flattened "Pecks"Anchovy Can over the hole, secured with 4 screws and silicone. Still running 10 years later, the last time I saw it so maybe still is out there somewhere.....

Actually since there is probably no stress on that spot it can probably be easily fixed. I friend, years ago, threw a rod on an old Ford tractor and a chunk about this size got busted out of the side of the block. He repaired the hole with one of the Devcon liquid steel products and years later it was still going strong.

Devcon is fantastic stuff - but pricey

Less expensive than a new tractor, eh? [smiley=beerchug.gif]
