Title: Online Purchases
Post by: Tony Smith on February 23, 2015, 08:05:03 PM
I can't remember which sub-board it was, but a couple of weeks ago there was a discussion of the relative performance of online suppliers, and in particular their shipping rates and speed.

I was in a unique position to set up a direct comparison between Motobins and Motorworks. This arose because I bought what was the last pair of front springs they had from Motobins. Then I discovered that Motorworks have the unobtainable cushioning ring that lurks in the bottom of the damper rods. I also discivered that Motorworks had heavy duty fork spring available for the R65.

I quickly decided that the new standard springs could go int he wife's bike and that the HD ones can go in mine (anyone who saw the video of the first start of the R65 will know that I have somewhat more than average avoirdupois.

Anyway, ordered on the same day, confirmation emails received the same day. Motobins parcel arrived Wednesday last week, still waiting for Motorworks.....

For some time on the odd occasion I order from Motorworks I had the sense that stuff took a bit longer to arrive from them - now confirmed. Now the service is friendly and the parts are good, but for the time being Motorworks will remain my 2nd string parts source.

In their defence Motorworks are in the process of relocating so now may not be the best time to make a comparison, that said I will pass them on Friday and if you have not got your order I will be happy to call in and give someone a Kicking.......

Lou, package arrived yesterday! Initial impression of the HD springs is that they are indeed somewhat heavier duty than the stock springs. BUT like many heavy duty spring manufacturers they make their springs shorter than stock on the theory that the heavier, but shorter, spring will have approximately the same ride height as standard.

Ah well, I will put 2" of sawn off Renthal handle bar into each fork top to lift the ride height a little.
