Hi all
I may have the chance to purchase a nice set of wheels from the LS model. My question is would these fit straight into my 81 model (flat top bing's, points ignition), or would I need to purchase different hardware ie spacers axle etc.
Thanks as always Steve.

I think the only issue might be the brake shoes for the rear brake, the LS brake shoes are different from a standard R65, I think the brake drum diameter of the LS rear wheel is larger in diameter.
I have a question for you, you say your bike is an '81 model year, but you have flat top carbs, and points ignition.
At least the US version of the '81 model year, the bikes have electronic igniton, and the dome top carbs, I've got the 9th bike produced for the US market for the '81 model year, and I have the electronic ignition, and dome top carbs.

Hi Bob
Although the bike is registered here in the UK as an 81, it could be an 80 bike I suppose. The frame number reads 6343883, if anyone could clarify that would be great.
Thanks Steve.

See attached link:

This link may be helpful in determining the year.

The LS front wheel is also drilled and has carrier bosses for 2 discs which, unless your bike already has a dual front disc option, may well
mean that you'll need different front wheel spacers (I think that the axle is the same). Of course, that mean that you'll want a dual ATE/Brembo front disc
setup for your forks.. you may be able to use your existing master cylinder, but would have to put in a line splitter to run both front brakes.
The LS rear wheel where the brake shoes contacts it is a bit larger in diameter - the slightly smaller R65 snowflake shoe may still work with it, but the
contact area will be less than 100%. I seldom use/rely upon my rear brakes anyway, but it is nice to have all of the miniscule braking power the rear binders can muster, sometimes.
The LS rear wheel is the same rim width as the snowflake, I believe. The front wheel however is wider in rim width than the stock R65 snowflake.
Depending on what you have for tires on your snowflake, it may still fit, or you might need to go up in tire width to get it to mount properly on the LS front wheel.
According to my records your frame # 6343883 bike was a 45 PS model built in 1979 (would be a 1980 model, I think)

Cheers guys
Yes my 65 already has dual discs, I suppose it's a bit of a mongrel really. If someone can can explain I will try to post a couple of photo's
Cheers Steve.

Real.OEM.com shows that serial number bike was built in 04/79.

The rear wheel spacing on the LS rear wheel is different to a stock R65, as the hub is wider. When I wrecked the Bimbo's rear wheel on a pot hole and couldn't find a replacement LS wheel I needed to make a spacer up to get a standard wheel to fit until I got a stock spindle to go with the wheel.

Cheers for the advice guys. I probably won't bother as it sounds a bit too much mider, the shipping costs would probably have ruled out the purchase anyway (2x wheels germany to UK).
Thanks Steve.
