Hello all, I'm a noob on this forum, and a happy owner of a 1982 R65 USA model with just under 30,000 miles on her clock. I'm in southeastern NC, and have owned this bike only a short while - September 2013 if I'm remembering it right. I owned a R60/5 in the late 70s and early 80s, then went without a bike for twenty five plus years, until one day in 2008 I bought two Honda CB 350s on the same day (one not running), and I seem to have slipped into a time warp or something, because I'm on a BMW again by the grace of a good friend who thought I needed one and who was under the misconception that he no longer did. I hope to remember some of what little I once knew about BMW R model mechanics, and to learn what I failed to grasp the first time around, as tinkering is as much fun as riding for me, except when I screw up something out of ignorance, then not so much. So, there's the obligatory first post, and I look forward to enjoying the forum.

Welcome on board jim.
I hope your friend does not regret his 'faux pas' too soon.
Meanwhile, do you have any plans for the bike? Other than to ride it, of course.
Cheers
Rev. Light

Welcome to our asylum, Jim.
In the FAQs section, there's a pdf of the R65 Owners Manual that you may find helpful. Check page two, as I think that's where it has drifted down from the later postings.
Ask any questions you may have. If we don't know the answer, we'll just make up something.

Feel free to ask questions, post pics, and tell stories here, we're a friendly bunch.

Welcome to the forum. MsBuck and I are also located in NC just south of Raleigh in the Willow Springs community. NCSteve is just up the road in Winston Salem.
Glad to have you aboard.

Welcome Jim,
I'm a newbie to BMWs in general, and the R65 specifically, but the folks here have been more than gracious and helpful in getting me started, and thru all the idiosyncracies (both the bike's and mine).
I'm also in NC (durham area), and have found Bombars Beemers to be an invaluable resource - he's had almost everything I needed along the way in stock, and is a master head builder. They know airheads!
