Dropped into my local Honda dealer on the way home from a spin with a friend yesterday. The mechanic there has his 89 R65GS up for sale. I know this guy has done everything needed to it, and more, its a beauty!

Lots of farkle on that R65. Interesting centerstand and mud flap flip up combo. I need a nice chuckle... what's his asking price?

€4K, :o, I paid €2.2K for my latest R1100.
He's spent a bucket on the bike, and he is a very good motorcycle mechanic, so I can believe, mechanically this bike is as good as you will get. The GS models do seem to be sought after and do command higher prices here.

That's $5526.00 USD at today's conversion rate. Doesn't sound over-priced, if it was an R80. R65? Quien sabe, amigo. It's still an attractive piece of trim.
Is there much in the way of available off-road ADV riding areas in your neighborhood? I do understand that in Germany, home of the uber ADV bikes, off-road vehicle operations are highly restricted to non-existent.

I can't speak for the Emerald Isle Monte, but a pal is a big off-roader here in the UK and it is getting more & more difficult to find places to ride off-road.

Not much at all, however for the size and population of our country, we have a very extensive public road network. As well as ~ 18,000KM of national, secondary, and regional roads, there exists about 78,000KM of other(Local roads). Practically all roads have sealed surfaces however many of those "local roads" are in wild sparsely populated, low traffic areas with typically poorly maintained and often very rough and undulating surfaces, e.g.:

I love my GS (R100GS) had it for 15 years although it has had two new suits since I bought it. it started off red and black with all sorts of heavy items bolted to it.......then I got a grinder and off it all came, it was painted black for a while. But now it is green, my favourite colour. I wouldn't sell it for all the tea in china!

Aye it's a billet six pot, the GS was not known for its stunning brakes especially loaded up with a passenger. With no option for twin discs a better calliper was the only way forward. Thankfully the PO made this mod so the cost was not mine! Nice man! ;D

That R65GS has all the period goodies and the proper frame - I'd say that it was WAAAY to nice to ride off pavement and get scratched up, etc - that is truly a rara avis!

I popped in to lee honda again this Saturday to buy oil for my f650, the R65GS was gone, the shop manager told me buyers were lining up for it, sold in 24 hours!

Occasionally it gets dirty too! Not averse to doing a bit of trail riding as long as it is reasonably dry, you don' t want to have to pick up an R100GS having dropped it! :-[
