Title: voltage problem
Post by: fastcataz on May 11, 2008, 12:46:07 PM
My stop light....stopped, working that is. I changed the bulb, no joy. Pulling out my trusty meter tells me that I am getting 12V at the rear light, but only 8V at the stop bulb. Any ideas?

Bettin' you have a partially broken/pinched/or old wire with way to much resistance. Get your multimeter out and start tracking the wires from the bulb to the brake switch. Hold on... could be the brake light switch itownself.

Resistance is futile be it the Borg or 24 year old wiring. I'd be looking at the switch first. Ground wires are often culprits, too. They be brown - mostly - on things German.  Good luck!

Time to start looking for corroded connections in the wiring harness.

Possible that a switch is giving you problems.

Does the same thing happen, whether you use the front or rear brake switch ?

Hah. Front switch is broken. Cleaned and checked connectors, still 8V. Got bored and ran a single wire around the harness, now we got stop. Light that is..
