Title: Forum search
Post by: AlfromNH on October 10, 2013, 06:19:32 AM
I hate to ask questions that have already been answered, so I always make use of a forum's search function. I have very limited success with the search function here.

I remember reading about sources for ATE caliper pistons. I need a couple so is searched for "ate piston"(without the quotes), but I only get two results, and not the post I remember.

Make sure the the search engine is searching through all posts.  By default it only checks through the last week or two

It will take a longer time to return results.  Don't bother it while it does or you will interrupt the search and have to start over

D'oh! I was using the magnifying glass search box, instead of the search tab which give more options. Thanks for clarifying.

I'd forgotten the magnifying glass was even there!

I think it's a quick search feature that uses the default search box settings

btw, there is a good informative thread by Julio about the difference between the ATE and Brembo pistons from a ways back.

When my cruddy ATE pistons bite the bullet, I'm going to do what Tony has done and make some out of stainless steel.  Any machine shop can make a set for you too, it's just a bit of lathe work.

I saw that, I didn't get the impression you could swap a Brembo for an ATE. I'm going to look into getting a couple made.

I don't believe you will find much if anything on sourcing new ATE pistons other than one or two members who have had them made in stainless.

You might get lucky and find a generic piston that fits. There are several suppliers in the UK that sell stainless piston and seal kits. I could never find them in the correct size though. 34mm or 38mm no problem but never 36mm.

Thanks for the input guys. I've started a new thread about the pistons, even with my advanced search techniques ;) I'm still unsure what I'm going to do.
