Good day Everyone
Im from Kimberley a little town in the karoo of South Africa. I have ridden my dad's R65 everyday while I was studying and when my brother needed transport it became his sole means of transport.
After an accident involving road rage the bike was stored away for about 3 years.
So last week my dad decided to give the bike to me and now I can start to fix it and use it on weekends and some week days.
I look forward to using the forum and the knowledge found from the other R65 guru's.
Kind Regards
led
Ps pics attached is from the day of the accident. I will update when I fetch the bike later in the month (500 km one way trip)

Welcome led!
You'll have her fixed up in no time flat - what parts will you need?
eBay is your friend.

Welcome.
Are you going to fix her up standard or are you going to have some fun with her....Not that you can't have fun with a standard bike.

Welcome aboard. Be sure to do a complete fluid change and, perhaps, clean out the float bowls, fuel tank and replace fuel lines. Left idle for lengthy periods, there's always a few niggles to take care of
Ride by here often.

Damage looks minimal to me.. I've ridden bikes with worse. :o
I never bothered to replace my valve cover after each of the incidents I've had. It'd look nice until the next time it ended up on the ground.
One day when I stop falling over, I'll think about getting some new shiny bits.

Thanks for the welcome!!
I spoke to my brother (who rode her last) and he said that there is a noise when you ride coming from the motor but when you pull in the clutch it is silent. What could this be?
-
The Airheads have a dry, single plate, automotive-style clutch. You're most likely hearing BMW music, that's all. Betcha don't hear the 'jingle' when riding.
-
So after receiving the bike and starting it I realized the sound was more like a diesel motor and specific to the left head...
So I ripped off the head and found this :'(
Found a new motor so I might be up and riding soon
Pictures have been deleted by admin for being oversize for this site , resize the picture and check the size after you repost it .

The externals seems pretty minor and looks very fixable. At least your bike starts, that's a good... start. I got mine in much worse conditions.
Btw, what are those on the latest set of picture you put up? Are those pitting on the conrods?
-
I cannot tell what the first picture is, maybe the big end of the conrod? The pictures of the crank look like the conrod sleeves became hot and started to score the journal?
-
Jip the first pic is the big end of the conrod.
(Sorry for the pics being so big will resize and repost)
I bought 2 r65 motors for the equivelant of about $450. The one is perfect running order and the other parts.
So short term is to fit the running motor and rebuild my original with the spares from the other...
