I wondered if someone could post a few pics of their saddlebag racks on the 65LS? I've got the factory racks for the classic bags. I'm not clear how they mount...

I cannot find my #$%^& camera, but here is a pic I took back in June of the bike - basically the top forward mounts at the top shock absorber mounting bolt, the bottom forward leg bolts into the vertical mounting hole on the triangular section by the passenger footpegs. The two rearmost sections bolt with a long bolt through the metal "loop" that hangs below the rear subframe loop, just ahead of the taillight and behind the rear cowling.
My pannier frames are stock chrome frames (2 piece) - so you should be able to see it quite clearly in the photo.
I run with the Krauser style bags (all I could get at the time) and so I had to order a special "seatbelt tab" part that locks into the rear latch of each bag. These bolt to the standard frame. and enable you to use the Krausers - the standard BMW factory bags of the period don't use the seatbelt tab part (I don't have a good pic of it at the moment).

These are the Krauser mounts that were on my parts bike when I bought it. They weren't pretty but they cleaned up nicely.

Thanks all.

Does that top part just mount on the innermost part of the bolt shock behind the nut, or is it inside the subframe?
-
Note the mounting differences between NHMike's racks and El Marco's earlier Krauser racks... notice anything about the lower attach points?
Mike has the "good" racks with a solid lower mount. Obviously, the Krauser's on Maximum Marco's have been DIY-modified to correct the nasty habit of these bags - when loaded- occasionally cracking the bike's sub-frame near the shock attach bolt. Ouch!
If you're shopping for hard-mounted bag racks, always select racks that have a strong lower mount.

wsmoller - the top forward mounts are inside the top subframe rails with the bolt for the shock passing through and nut on the inside
