Does anyone have an opinion of these vehicle history reports, that they care to share?

I used Car Fax on 2 of the cars we bought and all it showed was were the were sold originally. I don't know how they would get any other info except state registration.

They can get info from an insurance company data base, if the vehicle was reported to have been in a collision, flood, stolen, salvage, etc .

The information on the report is only as good as the info put in .

There's been quite a few cases of fraudulent car reports and titles after a major event, like a flood, or hurricane .

I have no experience with CarFax but do know that Cadillac dealerships have access to all warranty service records conducted on vehicles they offer for sale. May be that all GM dealers share this program.

And as Bob states, insurance companies are very big on recording various claim and repair data as they can protect themselves from possible future fraudulent claims.

Caveat Emptor, y'all.

A lot to be said for UK's 1979 Sale of Goods Act.

I guess it's similar to any other piece of insurance, in that we'd kick ourselves for not getting it, but complain about having to pay the premiums.

By the way, the autocheck.com I came upon was associated with a motorcycle.  I could be mistaken, as I haven't been at this very long, but it seems motorcycle reports are appearing more  frequently on this electronic frontier that marvels...
