I decided to take my "K" over to Mollsprings Motorcycles this afternoon for a pre mot check as i had finished work early. On my way into Huddersfield at Rockwood Roundabout i had the misfortune to drop the bike. Closer inspection of the road revealed an oil patch on the entry to the roundabout, i was riding cautiously due to the greasy conditions but had not noticed the oil and before i had time to react i was sliding on my arse towards the pub.
The Crime scene...... the oil is not that obvious

All the gear all the time, i had my Hein Gericke armoured jacket and pants which surprisingly show no signs of damage just tarmac stains.
The glove took a hammering and the inner knuckle protector has split but no damage to me thankfully.

Lou,
I'd say you were unlucky to come across a patch of oil but glad you are OK. Shame about the bike though.
Was it a diesel spill (a curse on all leaky diesel trucks and buses) or actual engine oil ?
I've only ever dropped a bike once (without actually hitting something first) and that was on diesel oil.
-
WHOA! That's a Happy-Sad kinda deal...
Certainly glad you're OK, Lou. That's the "happy" part.[smiley=thumbup.gif]
The "sad" part is, unfortunately, your K-bike wasn't as lucky. [smiley=thumbdown.gif]
Take your time. Clean up your gear then plan repairs to the bike. Looks cosmetic.
Sorry, amigo.
-
Glad to see you're ok
Some oil patches are impossible to spot!

Diesel there is a "blue" film over the tarmac as you enter the roundabout doesnt show too well in the photo though. I cannot believe my gear didnt get more damaged, i dont even have a scratch bruise a testiment to good gear.

Looks like Gertie will be back on the road earlier than expected....lol.

Diesel.
Sometimes on the way to work when the roads are damp I see a rainbow trail of the stuff for miles. You'd think at £6.70 a gallon they'd make some effort to keep it in their tanks.

YIKES!
I am very happy to hear that you are OK, Lou!
It is a shame about the damage to the bike, but those things can be sorted out more easily than replacing parts on our bodies! I'm sure that you'll get it fixed up soon, and it is a reminder to all of us to be wary of fluids and debris in the road, especially around intersections. ATGATT is a motto that will save our hides (literally) even when it is for a short jaunt over to pickup some milk at the local grocery.
Take care and have a medicinal pint or two and relax in your recliner!
-
Only just seen the pics Lou, as you say nigh on impossible to spot when you're stood there let alone when you're riding along.
Glad to see you're ok. The HG kit is highly regarded and I can see why now. I've still got my old HG leathers from my Guzzi days which I'll be using again - I was thinking of getting a textile suit but can't currently afford a HG gortex one, so the leathers *will* fit... once I've lost another stone in weight lol.
Hope you get the K sorted soon - it looks like a decent bike.
-
Glad to know you are OK Lou. ATTGAT for sure. It does make a difference!

Almost came a cropper again today driving into town stopped at lights in the cage , inside lane had a guy minding his own on a scooter lights changed and we set off together at reasonable pace (30 limit) when the scooter was forced into my lane by a dick head in a BMW M3 undertaking both of us at reckless speed then weaving through traffic in front of us, there is CCTV with ANPRS on that section i do hope they have got him, fortunately the scooter guy did not hit me or come off but it shook him up.
It just shows how vulnerable we are to the unexpected and Idiots.

Lou, sorry to hear you had a mishap, but unfortunately that's the risk we all take when on two wheels, diesel fuel on the road is one of the hazards that no one can be prepared for .
I can't think of a better endorsement for proper riding gear, than your photos .
Like the saying goes, the are two types of riders, those than have gone down, and those that will .
I'm a three time member of the having gone down 'club '.

I assume your moniker has a long history... keep it, it works. Continued blessings.

Had my throat cut twice then got gutted... still here (good surgeon [smiley=lolk.gif]) the name is my SAS cowboy handle originally having been put on the spot for a "Western" name i drew on my admiration of Lou Diamond Phillips in the 1988 Young guns film (yes it was a while back) the rest is history...oh and i am not a bad shot either [smiley=rifle.gif].

I went to check out the range pictured below, in North Phoenix (Ben Avery). It was a weekend and was lined in both directions with shooters. One particular sportsman was using a rifle that was louder than all the rest. Its sounded impressive. (I know almost nothing about them.) After about 15 minutes or so, it turned out he was firing down the wrong line, hitting the incorrect target. I wasn't armed, so I chose not to laugh out loud.
