Title: New Guy from MD
Post by: Friday on November 19, 2012, 01:24:28 AM
I want to introduce myself since I just joined the forum.  I have been looking for a project now for about 2 years.  I found an '83 R65, rebuilt engine in decent condition.  It is showing it's age but no major rust.  I dropped it at an independent shop for an evaluation and I pick it up this coming Wednesday 11/21.  It runs.  It doesn't need anything major but there is a lot that can be done to improve it.  The mechanic has a list for me.  I have owned a couple of BMWs, later models, never a boxer.  I figured this would be a good place to start.  I've seen some incredible threads on repairs and restorations on this site and look forward to learning from the members here.  I am somewhat mechanically inclined so this will be an interesting learning experience.

Airhead Beemer Club has tech days to help people with tech problems.
There are a lot of experts on here as well. Hope you enjoy the new ride.

A Monday morning welcome to you, Friday.  When you get an opportunity, post up a pic or two of your new ride. (Check under "General Announcements" for tips on sizing your snaps prior to posting them.)

A BMW in Germantown MD. How appropriate is that. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Welcome Friday! Looking forward to some pix of the new ride.

Now that mine's in pretty good shape I'm hesitant to make any cosmetic alterations. I'd love to put on a set of wire wheels, a different seat, redo the gauges and headlight, etc - but will have to wait for another project bike to carry out my fantasies.

If yours needs no mechanical work, you'll be starting out at the fun part of the restoration.

I never looked at it that way.  Pretty cool.  Thanks.
