I've previously mentioned the Saturday morning breakfast rides to the Blue Hangar Cafe on board NorthWest Regional Airport. One morning, Mike Crenshaw and I saw a classic Stearman collide with a pickup truck that had stopped on the taxiway.
Well, since this incident is beginning to make the national news feeds, here's another fine Saturday event for the folks dining not 200 yards from the end of runway 17...

Student pilot in a Cessna 172 returning from his first x-country solo.
Think he's a little low, do you? When you forget to deploy your flaps, it makes for a long, low and faster short final into an already short-ish field.
Hey! Where did that car come from?

Although the word STOP is painted on the road, lady driving the Volvo SUV failed to do so prior to crossing the runway. In the first photo, that asphalt patch on the right side of the car is a run up pad and not the active runway.
Hey! Where did that airplane come from?

Right main gear knocked off. Nose gear strut folded back. Prop bent into a pretzel which means a complete engine tear down and inspection.
Hey! Why aren't those flaps deployed?
Always a free show with your eggs n' sausage.

Does it count as a solo flight as he ended up with a passenger ??

That's pretty good reporting Monte.
I've seen pictures of a low wing landing on top of a high wing as they simultaneously touched down. ...long before the internet... It happened many years ago at Zahns uncontrolled strip on LI. I'm sure there are several other copy cats out there...
Maybe Volvo should ease off of their claim to making the very safest automobiles.

Since you mentioned it... Same airport in 2009.
Landing low-wing Piper didn't see the high-wing Stinson sitting on the departure end of the runway. Both pilot's view partially blocked. Still, no excuse for this type of accident.
The Piper put his mains right on the Stinson's wing and stuck there!

Those two airplanes stuck together remind me of something. What was it??
I was having breakfast with my wife at a resturant in Independence, OR with a view of the runway there. Somebody in an ultralight (rigid wing, not those parachutes with motors) took off in front of us. It looked almost like VTO; he rolled a few feet and was up. I bet I have room in my back yard to launch and land one of those.
Is it any more dangerous than riding a motorcycle?

Any machine that intentionally leaves the ground, is dangerous .
That third dimension, altitude, is a killer to us two dimension dwelling creatures !!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The video of Sunday's crash was on the local news on Monday morning. Ironically the video was taken by the pilots wife. I suspect that may well be evidence in the insurance law suit. The female driver of the car was completely oblivious to the plane on approach and just drove right across without stopping. And while the word STOP is boldly written on the roadway, there is no traditional red hexagonal stop sign. Plenty of room for blame all around.
Suffice to say, the Blue Hanger Cafe, in addition to a pleasant breakfast, can make for an interesting ride destination.
Here is the video on YouTube.

I don't live two dimensionally. I brachiate. Not as well as orangatangs, though. I am so jealous of their easy strength. And the toes on their feet.
