FWIW, I read this message thread yesterday, and per Rob Valdez's post, I called Capital Cycle @ 800-642-5100 or 703-421-7860 (Sterling, VA), also www.capitalcycle.com/body_html/catalog.html. Here's the status of the two versions of the R65 Owner's Manual:

1979-84 R65 (Part No. 01 41 9 798 291) - ON HAND, current price $24.95 plus S&H

R65 - R80RT 1985-on - not currently in stock. The Cap Cycle guy said he's trying to get some.

I ordered a manual today for my '81. Stay tuned.

BTW, according to parts departments at A&S Cycle and Bob's BMW last fall, the R65 manual (at least the 79-84 version, if not both) has been superseded by "Rider's Manual, US Models R100S/R100RT"
(Part No. 01 47 9 798 747), which purportedly covers the R65, also. It does, after a fashion. Where there is a problem is graphics & text for some of the controls & features. I bought one, and not surprisingly (considering that I'm a newbie), I became *totally* confused by the disconnect between what's in the book and what I could see on my bike.

Good luck to all in your quest.
