Tomorrow, Saturday 01 Sept 2012, I'll collect another specific Airhead that I have had the Jonses for for a very long time. A sweet BMW R100S.
I know, I know. Without photos, the bike doesn't exist so I'll post up a couple of snaps Saturday afternoon.
Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

How do you manage to do this AND still be married?
Sounds like a good score - we all anxiously await the pictures and the story that goes with it!
I figured that we had both settled on (3) motorcycles in the garage as the appropriate number - 2 older ones and 1 newer one. Well, now you've gone and upped the ante on us...
I received the first batch of parts from Jay at Dauntless motors - going to start the process of fitting up a side car on the R100 after I figure out why the thing appears to be leaking from multiple places at once - maybe my crankcase breather valve is stopped up..hmm

The newest addition to my Airhead collection in a 1978 R100S. I have had my eye on this local bike for over eight years. The back story is lengthy so will save it for another post.
This "S" is a minimalist approach, sans fairing, with some nice aftermarket features: billet aluminum upper triple clamp, fork brace replaces the under fender OEM part, powder coated chassis, some air shocks that I have not yet identified, what I believe are stainless mufflers, braided stainless brake lines, an electronic ignition plus new Metzler Lasertracs.
This hot rod is a torque monster in comparison to the frisky R65s in the stable. I'm still pretty run down with the after effects of pneumonia so have only put a couple miles on the bike.
A follow-up later as I discover more...

WHO said three was the perfect number? That's news to me. See, you guys just don't understand Texas women and the way they appreciate their men folk. I think my number is seven and that's not counting Mrs. Phorqs R1100R.
That's a pretty one for sure Monty. Bring it on down and we'll christen it with a Shiner bottle on the front fender. ;D

Bicyclists refer to "N + 1", where N is the number of bikes you have now and N + 1 is the number of bikes you need. Or desire anyway. It certainly goes for motorcycles too.

I *really* wish that I had dual disks and a fork brace on my 1978 R100/7 as I prepare to add the sidecar. Well, maybe later, I'll find some more parts..

Looks nice. I especially like the cleaned up, less cluttered front end, spoked wheels, and generally simplified look.
Not quite so sure about the rear, though. Cut down rear fender? Just looks like a little more thought required in this area - just in the detail, to tidy it up a little.
Put your mark on it Monte - its 98% there already.
I'd make room for it in my garage though, if I did not already have this my R100. But having seen your new machine, I might be taking another look at mine......Its too 'stock' really, isn't it?

Your R100 is a beautiful example of an unmolested survivor. Keep it factory and you'll honor the design. IMHO. ;)

I would hardly call it unmolested - a survivor maybe.
Its too high a mileage to be worth anything - it aint no 90S.

That's great, Monte. I'm looking for bike number 2 myownself, probably an R100RS. But I lack storage space right now. Still not sure if that will stop me anyways.

This "new bike" deal has some unusual twists as to how it came into my possession. I plan a full story later but for now...
The previous owner, Steve BECK, was a good friend, weekend riding buddy and, for awhile, a school district co-worker of mine.
Steve was 55 years old when he suffered a massive heart attack and passed away on 03 JUNE of this year. His long-time partner, Melinda, became the executor of his estate. On 30 AUG, Melinda offered me first refusal on the purchase of the R100S from Steve's estate. Buying the bike was a no-brainer. I will remember Steve every time the wheels roll on his R100S. I feel like I'm simply the caretaker.
Today, I registered the bike at the tax office and secured a new Texas Antique Motorcycle license plate. The hairs on the back of my neck stood straight up when the clerk handed me the license plate.
The first three letters on the tag are B C K.
To my way of thinking, that spells BECK. Kinda spooky, in a good sorta way.

55 is way too young. [smiley=cry.gif] I am so sorry to hear of his passing. That is a very sad story. Take care of yourselves out there folks.
Bu what a story! That license plate coming up like that is amazing! That bike was definitely meant for you to take care of and ride after your friend's death. [smiley=engel017.gif]

Hi Monte, I think some things are just meant to be. I'm sorry that your friend died at such a young age. It seems that you are the one who will carry on a piece of his legacy through the loving care and riding of his bike. Kind of like being blessed. D2

I actually took the BCK plate to her home and showed her. A nice moment, it was.
