Back story: Spent last week in Austin, Texas, helping #1 son do some rehab work on his recently purchased home. Question. Why were all my heavy chores located down low? My back and knees are crying.
Anyway... Austin prides itself on being "unique". In fact, the city's actual motto is "Austin. Keep It Weird" Folks work hard at that.
Escaped my construction work for a short visit to the Horsepower Farm on South Lamar. Winslow Mankin runs a small shop specializing in resto, service and sales of unique bikes. I had previously heard about his turbo-boosted R65 and was disappointed that it was parked at his home. Next time, perhaps. http://www.horsepower-farm.com/

Food trailers are way big in Austin. All seem to offer a specialty menu. We tried a joint called The Texas Cuban. Cuban sandwiches are the house, uh, trailer's specialty. Tasty and fun. Customers drink free beer on Saturday nights! I need to write that down...
The motorcycles I spotted on the streets were mostly Euro. Trellis-framed crotch rockets were abundant. However, the most frequently eye-balled two-wheelers were scooters. All colorful. Mostly 50cc CVT units ridden by guys and gals doing their best to keep Austin weird. In some cases, that means a helmet-less chick wearing a bikini top cruising SoCo on a pink Vespa. Really.
I'm hoping teacher son will dream up a few more chores for me. ;)
Gotta get Bengt's fairing finished... Now that he's returned from the beach with his odd "pals". ;D

Interesting now free beer Saturday night and free coffee Sunday morning to help recovery [smiley=lolk.gif] ..... had an interesting run in with some of your fellow Texicans today at the Stars and Stripes Classic car event.
Lucky Lou was on the cowboy trail with the saloon in tow flying my Lonestar flag which once flew over the capitol building in Austin, they were impressed by the "Trail Saloon" and the libations on offer......no training beer here boys.

( will stick some piccys up later on another thread when i have recovered enough)

Is it Monte who is always crying for "Pictures, we need pictures!"? So, Mongo, where are the pix of the bikini clad skooter operators? What, you didn't take any? Could it be that SWMBO was close by?
Lou, you really need to get over this way. I have a truly unique gift that I think you will appreciate, but you have to be present to win.

By the way, my trip to the beach in Corpus Christi was no picnic. A lot of pipe yards and oil field service companies complete with grizzled roughnecks. Good folks all, but it's a good thing they don't wear bikinis.
