Title: Man From Down Under
Post by: Mike V on April 14, 2012, 11:17:12 AM
Hi All,

I was introduced by another airhead friend here in town about an Aussie planning a US and Alaska tour.  Plans for my friend to house his bike and act as ambassador fell through so I decided to take the reins.  His name is Mike Green, retired CE from Adelaide Australia.  He arrived here in San Diego last Thursday and purchased an F650GS here in town sight-unseen.  He ordered Panniers, racks, tank bag, skid plate and engine guards all that were delivered here at my home address.  We've been assembling the TouraTech equipment here at my garage and all that is left is his GPS unit then a test ride tomorrow morning through the San Diego hills.  He has a very interesting itinerary that starts in SC after he ships the bike out there Wednesday. Smart idea not having to cross the SW desert.  He'll then be traveling through the South, TX Hill country, Grand Canyon Rim, Capitol Reef and making his way to Alaska via Yellowstone where he will hook up with a couple of his Aussie mates.  It's been a treat having Mike around and wrenching with him.  Makes me very itchy to get moving on my summer tour, myself.  Anyway - just wanted to send out a message to all of you that may cross his path or be able to lend any help, conversation, or the like if needed.

Interesting guy with an impressive tour resume in many exotic areas under his boots.  Ah, the thought of retirement and ability to follow the front wheel!  I'll be sending out smoke signals if he runs into trouble, but doubtful.  Gotta love bike people.  Ride safe, ride often Mike Green.

Lou,

I would have to agree with you.  And after listening to some of his stories I doubt he will be returning to some of those "exotic" destinations again.  I saw Mike off to the dealer where he is shipping his bike to Charlotte, NC.  He's flying out to meet it where he will begin his tour starting in the Blue Ridge.  Tina prepared a great dinner for him his last night in town where we poured over my maps and discussed some preferable routes in the Smokeys I've travelled.  He's updated his blog and will be doing so along his way if any of you are interested.

Ride safe Mike G.
