I have a slight fuel leak on the left hand side of the tank i suspect there is a fuel return line causing it as it doesnt leak when the engine is not running, what do you think, also anyone know what this oddly shaped box spanner is for ??.

Could be as simple as a hose clamp has loosened up .
Are there any quick disconnects on the fuel lines in the tank area ?
I don't know about the K75's, but the OEM installation of fuel lines on my oilhead, had clamps that were crimped onto the lines , no threaded (worm gear type) clamps, after having the OEM fuel line quick disconnects break, I opted for the clamps that BMW sells for fuel injection lines, instead of the typical 'worm gear' type, they have a metalband that contacts the fuel line, so the grooves or serrations in the regular hose clamp, doesn't cut into the rubber of the lines .

Lou I had a similar leak on my K75s. Being a fuel injected engine there is a fuel pump in the tank that pressurizes the fuel system when the bike is on. It is accessed through a removable plate on the bottom of the tank. In my case it was the gasket for the plate that failed and was allowing the leak. Another thing to check is all the hose connections since it a pressurized system.

Oddly shaped box spanner = extension for the "110 degree socket with extension". Mechanical advantage and a bit easier than using a ring spanner or 12" extension.
Oh ..... and a spanner is the proper name for a #$%^ wrench thingy. TIC
