Title: High Dollars R65
Post by: montmil on November 09, 2011, 07:58:22 AM
If the old saying, "There's one born every minute" is true, here's the perfect 1979 R65 for 'em. Plus, you can "take this work of art home" as it's only $14,000.00. Good golly...

Well one thing Monte...he does provide a humungous list of things he has done to the bike that we could use as a reminder of what jobs could be considerd. Useful maybe to all those members looking to fill the winter months!!! I wonder if an extra "0" got in the asking price but then it would be too cheap.

You would think, for that price, they might have reconditioned the instruments.  ::)

The only way that 10x over price would be considered by me is if the bike were restored to pristine, as new from the factory, concours condition.  As it is, it is far, far from that and is simply a rider, worth ~ 3.5K at the absolute most.. ;D

I think he is asking too much.

He is dreaming.  You get nothing for fixing up a broken bike.

The fact that he has done so much work either means he picked the wrong bike to start with - i.e. a right 'bag of spanner' or he is some ultra fussy obsessive who has got carried away with himself.

But trying to get your money back after having over spent on your restoration - well good luck with that.

In the UK he'd still be dreaming if he ask £4k.

And it has 63,000 miles.

There is nothing special fitted to it and I suspect that I could built a similar bike for £2K - being careful with what I starte with.

Short of replacing every wearing surface on the bike it's near impossible for a 63,000 mile bike to be as good as a factory new one. You can get a bike to look concours but that doesn't necessarily make it as good as new.

The only bikes worth well over the odds are genuine carefully stored low milers and then you wouldn't want to ride it which sort of defeats the point.

Haha, It's like buying a Bike Brand New, use it for 20 years, then sell it for a profit.

Give the guy a break Fellas (and Ladies), he´s just trying to make a $495.00 profit of what he paid for it.

Here is another person who is a dreamer, but with their head a little bit lower in the clouds than the first posting:
http://westernmass.craigslist.org/mcy/2661000764.html

Now, if BOTH bikes were in Very Good-to-Great condition, I could see maybe $6K, but when one of them appears to be a parts bike, without headlight, instruments, or headers, I don't see how it can rate that high..

I think you are the one that has been smoking too much, Bob.  That is the bike that started this thread!

I think that it was all that heat in Aridzona for so long, and now they've had a relaively 'cool' snap, that caused him to have to burn some brush from his backyard to keep warm, and, well, he inhaled some of the smoke.. :D

I was eating an apple at the time !!!! ;D ;D

It probably has something to do with my internet service, I downgraded to a lower level of service about 3 weeks ago and I have encountered connectivity problems with eBay, Yahoo, Craigslist, etc...... since .

I actually have better internet service at work, my work station is  not locked out of eBay, etc...

I've been on vacation the last three weeks, I downgraded  my service the first day of vacation, the cost of internet, cable TV, and telephone has gotten out of control, I am seriously considering cancelling cable TV, I've only watched it six hours in the last three weeks !!

How is your library system where you live, Bob?
That is where I get most of my TV box sets and movies on DVD.
The catalog is online.  I order what I want and have it sent to my local branch.
I get an e-mail when it is ready for pick-up.
I get an e-mail 3 days before it is due back.

NO COMMERCIALS!   ;D

I have no cable or land-line phone.  Just an antenna and converter box for my analog TV and a pay-by-the-minute cell phone.

AT&T provides me with DSL for $37/month.
I have had the service for 3.5 years with no increase in price!
