Title: Another new rider
Post by: wrecks on September 01, 2011, 01:25:48 PM
I recently purchased a '86 R65. I've been riding it now for about a month and have been enjoying the time on it.

I notice that after about 1/2 half hour my upper back starts burning and my left hand almost cramps up. Any tips for adjustments I can make?

Thanks

Fit high bars and if needed you can retro fit cruise control which just locks off the throttle ..... welcome to the Herd.

Welcome Wrecks !!

That bike looks familiar, are you located in the Pacific northwest area ?

One of our members here made a posting a few weeks ago that a friend was selling his mono R65, it looks like the same bike .

Yes. I bought it from a guy near Lake Chelan. Same bike?

One of our members here, Deegee, made the post maybe she will see this thread and confirm it, but there can't be too many R65's with that paint scheme .

The location on her signature is central Washington, so it has to be the same bike .

Adjustments to the bike or, perhaps, personal fitness? You did not mention your motorcycling experience, your age or your level of health / fitness.

I would suggest reviewing the physical aspect of riding before making changes to the R65. Motorcycling is vastly different than driving around in a cage. Muscles must adapt to new experiences whereas the bike can't really do so. Give the bike a chance. Ride often.

I'm just saying...

Nice paint job on that bike!
If that is Deeg's bike I guess that I'd never seen a proper picture of it before!

I hear what you're saying. The dynamics of riding are completely different than I imagined. Although, I'm not the most fit 48 year old, I am also not a slug. I have never had this type of pain while bicycling but maybe I just never noticed with my legs and butt in more pain.

It wasn't her bike, it was a friends bike .

Nice paint scheme. For a second there I thought it was an R90S.  ;D
