Hi guys
As I am going thru my bike at the moment I notice my rear shocks are looking a little weary with rusty springs and bodies. Do you know if the originals can be stripped and fettled, or is it a case of buying new?
Many thanks Steve.

I have never heard of the originals being rebuilt.
They should be replaced.

BMW recommends fitting new rear shock components rather than the impossible task of rebuilding worn out dampers. Was just reading about this in my shop manual this morning. Go figure the odds of that!

PS: The thread link was my original shock question. Again, what're the odds? [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

The stock shocks on R65s were never all that great even when new, and years and miles later about all they're good for is holding the tire away from the inner fender.
General consensus is that about the best affordable shocks around are the Hagons, from Dave Quinn, http://www.davequinnmotorcycles.com/. Ikons and such are great, just a lot more $$$, and Dave speaks with each buyer to try and get you suspension best suited to your size, weight, riding habits, etc. Most everyone I've spoken with about Dave and Hagon were very much satisfied.
