Title: Speed and braking distance.
Post by: Barry on June 25, 2011, 05:37:01 AM
Here's something that hit home to me the other day about speed and braking distance.

Riding at 60mph in a 60mph limit you can stop in 150 ft with maximum braking effort.

Lets say you are doing only 5 mph faster at 65mph when a deer runs out in front of you 150 ft away.

With the same braking effort what speed will you be doing when you hit the deer ?

Clue it's not 5 mph.

Scoll down for the answer

25 MPH

I rarely ride at night, due to all the deer around my neck of the woods, my wife and I have got 3 each in the last 20 years with our vehicles. I ate all 3 of mine, I tease her when she comes home without the deer.
