Title: Handle Bar issue
Post by: wilcom on May 06, 2011, 01:00:31 PM
I have the front of my bike apart to clean up stuff. The bike was housed a couple of miles from the beach for a few years and accumulated corrosion in every nook and cranny.

While I had it apart I have decided to go "naked" for the summer and take the Hannigan fairing off the bike. I ordered some bar end Napoleans and here is where my problem lays.

My bars( that work great with the Hannigan) are too short on the "twist grip" side to mount the Napolean.  The twist grip is hanging over the end of the bar mayby 1 1/2 inches. The bars need to be flush with the end of the twist grip. I can't push the control on further as I am hitting the fork with the Master Cylinder as it is.

I measured the bars and they are 22 inches tip to tip. I put these bars on the bike when I installed the Hannigan years ago and don't remember a clue as to where I got them or what the are( no BMW prt# if they were righteous Beemer bars).

Does anyone know if there are stock bars like mine that are 24 or 25 inches tip to tip? I don't want to get after market 7/8 bars as I have heard it screws up your control mounting. If they were swept back at more of an angle, that might make the MC slip up past the top of the forks too. However that would eat up my turning radius.

Thanks for any help

Hucky's has several to choose from with dimensions shown in the pictures.  Be sure to check all three sections as they have different options.  http://www.bmwhucky.com/index.html

Flanders is a non-OEM option.  If you like a sporting position with a wider bar, their sidecar bar might be what you are looking for.  http://www.sideroadcycles.com/ImportedMotorcycles/ImportHandlebars/ImportHandlebarsBMW.html

Don't even waste your time with a RS bar.  I tried it a long time ago.  I sold them a while back.

Thanks Rob!

Those were good sites and got me in the right direction. They had some bars with the 24 inch span I need. I found that the bars I have now are for a R100S
