I saw an add in our local newspaper: Project! R25 for sale, $1800.
It looked very interesting and yesterday I contacted the seller to have a look:

Do not let the "dirty" look fool you, it is rust protection, and behind that, there is very little corrosion. The seller bought the bike 35 years ago for his 11 year old son and it has been standing in his barn for 30 years.
As the seller himself likes to dabble with old bikes:

(this beautiful BSA is just one of several very nice, old bikes in his barn) I am rather confident, that the R25 is in a workable state, ie the seller is trustworthy.
The decision was easy and he took my offer of $1500, so now I am the proud owner of a bike only 5 (five) years younger than myself

BTW I forgot to mention that a restored R25/3 from 1955 was sold yesterday on the German ebay for $6685.

Hey, Trolle,
Don't let that cool R25 resto project draw you away from enjoying the upcoming riding season!
Nice score, amigo. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Congratulations trolle!
I wonder what happened to the original tank? I see you have the seat - sort of...
You have your work cut out for you!
The oil filler is much more accessible on those singles!
Here you go, S. Meyer will help you get in debt real fast!

If you need any help, contact me - I've done restorations of 3 of these animals. The R 25/3, R26, R 27 have to be one of the coolest and comfortable rides around. I have one in my garage at the moment. Will post a pic later! In the meantime. here are some pics of a previously owned R 25/2 with a steib LS 200 sidecar - fairly rare with a left hand mounting.

Trolle,
That is going to be a wonderful winter project for you. Maybe 2 winters? ;) Can hardly wait to see what you do with it.
-
Thanks for your interest. Meyer is known to me as he often has items on the German Ebay.
If things are going my way I intend to spend appr. $3.000 restoring the bike to its former glory and I am really looking forward to doing it.
Just now I am hunting for spare parts and have found a front light and a tank on Ebay. Spareparts for the r25 tend to be on the expensive side but I hope to get them for a fair price.
I am looking forward to seeing your pics, Balibeemer. An r25 like the one on the photo in your post was sold for $5000 this weekend on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180645542771&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

That is nice! So were you the Buyer?
Do you think you will have to put a new liner inside?
-
So were you the Buyer?
Alas no, I wanted to sleep before taking the decision and the buyer did not!
But now I have found a supplier who is not on ebay, and he is far cheaper and has everything including a very very detailed spareparts list with prices. Extremely useful for planning!

Cool! Congratulations! At least I hope it was you! :)
-
Sweet! Have fun on that project. I love the old ones - I can reach the ground on those NO PROBLEM! They are beautiful bikes, too.
-
Yes it was me who got it, and it was not cheap.
Neither was/is my wife and she is beautiful as well, even though she is undergoing restoration. She is having her worn out knee fixed on monday and we hope she will be walking normally again after a couple of years with increasing pain.
greetings from a north where the weather is having a hard time deciding whether it is spring or winter.
