Title: I need to start checking yard sales!
Post by: marcmax on March 08, 2011, 08:16:22 AM
One of the ladies I ride with is addicted to going to yard sales. I might have to try it myself. Last weekend she found a set of hard bags that the seller said were for a BMW. Knowing I ride BMW's she paid him the $20 he was asking and brought them to me. Imagine my surprise to get a set of 40 liter Krauser bags complete with cast aluminum mounts and all the bits to mounts them. Granted they were covered in bird droppings and looked like they has been sitting in a trashpile covered in mud but $20. A little sanding and some paint and the mounts went on. The bags took a lot of elbow grease, a stiff bristled brush and some cleaner but stayed pretty watertight throughout the cleaning. There was even two keys!

Now my little girl has some wide hips.

Wow!   That has got to be one of the best 'scores' I've heard of in a few years!    You owe that woman a dinner, I'd say!

Maybe we could give her a shopping list of things to look for on her next shopping trip!

The best product I've found for cleaning plastic and vinyl stuff - coolers, Krauser bags, etc. is Westley's Bleche-wite. Great score on the bags!

I've only ever used it to clean my white wall tires on my cars.   I haven't had white wall tires on any of my cars in decades.

Muther's makes a similar Back-to-Black. I use it on my Cabriolet's black plastic bits.

Good score!

My brother found an R75/5 at a yard sale fifteen years ago for $200. And a friend of mine found me an R50/5 at one for $225.

The goodies are out there - just circulate.
