I just bought a 1986 R80! I missed being here cause I had to sell my R65 due to Uncle Sam (paying taxes). Its been 2 years since I had a beemer and Im glad to be back. (Am I aware that its not an R65? ) yes. I know you air heads dont care. It seems much more difficult to enter posts on the BMW motorcyle owners of the planet Earth. BTW Im from there.....at least a close relative.

That looks like a very nice bike! At least you name still works!
Yeah, I think the BMWMOA forum is kind of restricted to where you have to be a card-carrying member.
If you have a tough-enough skin, there is always Boxerworks forum, if you can't get the answers you need, here.
But you are welcome, and we invite you to post your technical questions in the BMW Technical Q&A, Primarily R65 section. [smiley=bmw_smiley.gif]

Very nice bike!
Welcome back - I'm sure that we can make room for your R80 here. I'm sure that I'll be posting questions about my R100 here as well.

Interesting set-up for the front turn signals.
Toss some R65 decals on the side panels and we won't tell anyone. ;)

I haven't been on this forum for ab out 2 1/2 years (since I sold my 65). Had a few jappas since then, currently have an 85 CBX750, but I have this desire to get back to an airhead. 8-) :-/
I haven't ridden an 80 or a 100 but am thinking of checking them out, but something keeps drawing me back to looking longingly at 65s!
I'd be interested in comments on the differences, both good and bad, between 65/80/100. I do mostly commuting, but some trips etc. I recall my 65 being great for both. Do I need a bigger machine?? :-/

R65 is a little lighter and amongst the twin shocks at least quicker handling.
R80 doesn't have a very good reputation for fuel economy. R100 is better than 80 on fuel and probably as good as the 65 when touring. R65 probably better for commuting.
Personally I like the looks of the bigger bikes especially the tank style and lust after an 85 - on R65 for that reason. A nice low mileage one came up recently on ebay and I was all set to bid but it ran away and ended up at $4400.
