Title: New Hi Vis Vest
Post by: Lucky_Lou on February 12, 2011, 12:44:12 PM
Got me a new vest for the WB bike run, sun was out so a blast up to Squires Cafe to test it was the order of the day......any excuse.

More like low-vis! Health-and-safety nuts would go ape. And what is respect, anyway? My Oxford dictionary defines it as deferential regard -- well you can keep it! I don't much like people being deferential.

At least the flag is the right way up.... assuming its flying left to right.

Now theres a can o worms most folk dont realize theres a right and wrong way or which way it should be hung or what the individual colours represent.
Respect to you sir....

Well Lou that would certainly catch my eye but then again I'm also an old Britt bike fan so the union jack always turns my head! The reflective trim seems just the kit for nighttime. I've been noticing a number of  neon / day glow chartreuse vests here in the desert and because I notice them have been considering getting one.

I'm not into hi viz vests, but my daughter made me one for fun for Xmas. It's made out of heavy duty denim, cut like a suit vest and satin lined....I'll have to get a sink chain for the fob pockets.Being a dressmaker, she has the buttons backwards.

A good read for the non-U.K. residents out there. (http://www.seiyaku.com/reference/union-flag.html)

But run-away nationalism really makes me not open threads, no matter which country is being discussed.

Just for the record the "Union Jack" as it currently stands was designed and adopted in 1801 to mark the union with Ireland it consists of the  the Flag of St George (England) the flag of St Andrew (Scotland ) and the flag of St  Patrick (Ireland) all imposed on top of one another.
It seems the Welsh dont get a look in.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Flag
I understand the Stars are representative of the States of the USA  but are the Stripes significant ??
Interestingly if you scroll down the Wikky page it features the flags of Baton Rouge Louisiana  and Taunton Massachusetts which also feature the pre 1801 Union Jack ?? must be a Colonial thing.
Turning into an interesting  history lesson
Lou
Motu... the gear we wear for reenacting has the buttons the "wrong" way round and its surprising how awkward it makes it to get dressed.

I very much like your jacket, Lou. I'm sure the reflective materials are highly visible at night. All my riding jackets have some sort of reflective materials incorporated into their design.

And like you, I also have some "reflective" bits in my hair. People tell me it shows up quite well! ;D

The thirteen stripes in the American flag represent the original thirteen colonies that rebelled against the British monarchy and became the first states in the Union.

Texas has had the flags of six nations flown over our state. Among the six, several have gone through variations upon a theme.
http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ref/abouttx/sixflags.html

BTW, the UNited States has a "Union Jack" flag. Not to be confused with your national emblem, our "jack" is flown from the jackstaff on US Navy vessels and other governmental entities.

Alot of re enactor wannabes make the mistake of flying the Confederate Jack over their camps not realizing the Army Battle flag is Square with a white boarder  the rectangular one being for the Navy.
It cost me a fortune at the hairdressers to have the grey streaks put in im just a slave to fashion.....at least i still have my own teeth.
Lou
This is my favourite flag make of it what you will..Ive stood where it flew and always been a sucker for the underdog.

This is a back-pack I bought for use on my Honda CB200 for commuting, when I finish the bike.
It was made by an English company - BeSeenOnABike (http://www.beseenonabike.co.uk/acatalog/cycling-Rucksacks-covers.html).

Maybe not just for fun.  Maybe she wants to keep her Dad alive as long as possible.

Does it fit over your riding jacket?

Yes,made to fit over my jacket, and to be seen when using a Camelback. This is just a test run with some remnant fabric,we have some reflective material she will try to work into the design. This is just to see if I will wear one....working,sometimes.

So-called “Assault Weapons Bans” such as the now expired 1994 Clinton ban and the one still in place in states such as California seek to ban rifles that our misguided legislators feel have no purpose in civilian hands. They identify “evil features” they can use to generically classify these “military style” weapons in sweeping terms. Of course these features, such as plastic pistol grips, barrel shrouds, and bayonet lugs have absolutely nothing to do with the firearms potential lethality in the real world and are merely cosmetic features. After all, it really doesn’t matter what color the firearm is if it fires the same ammunition right? Well, in the “spirit” of the California Assault Weapon Ban I decided to do my best to alleviate the fears of my fellow citizens and gun-banning legislators when I put together a new AR-15 for my wife. Below is the result of my painstaking work to transform an Evil Black Rifle (EBR) into a Cute Pink RIfle (CPR). Introducing the Hello Kitty AR-15!

This rifle is 100% legal in California because it is based on an “off-list” lower receiver made by Stag Arms and has no evil features at all, instead featuring a fixed stock instead of the evil collapsible stock, a muzzle brake in place of the vile flash-hider, and a MonsterMan Grip instead of the heinous and malicious plastic pistol grip. The C Products magazine looks like a 30 round magazine body but is permanently modified to only allow 10 rounds.

Speaking of warrants I have funny story about trying to get on a plane in Dallas... but thats for another day.
Im a member of a Cowboy Action Shooting group and a Reenactor of Old West/ Civil War. Cowboy Action is a Hoot if your lucky enough to get a licence to do it and surprisingly popular despite the tough gun laws we have.
I do hope to get over Stateside before long but it would be easier if i had a Mexican passport instead of British.(allegedly)(!! for my lawyer)

Yes Rob a few times... Ive stood in the window of the Book Depository where the shot was allegedly fired from.....as a shooter myself  i dont buy the single shooter theory.I do get the triangulation though.I must say i found the Kennedy Memorial singularly unimpressive (Just down the road from the Book Depository) mainly due to the graffiti, litter and the dodgy characters hanging around, hopefully it has improved since then.
I did spend alot of time touring around Texas with my Buddy Terry who now lives in  "Orange " near the Louisiana Boarder.
I also spent alot of time in Seattle and Spokane
Loved it up there in the mountains and on the lakes and rivers( had access to a boat and almost broke my leg water skiing) however i didnt like NY though so must be a country boy at heart.
Lou
Ps Flew from Seattle to Spokane on Alaska Airways.. [smiley=uhoh2.gif]..Gulp im braver than i look, have they gone bust yet??
