Title: Cyclone Yasi.
Post by: chrisr65ls on February 04, 2011, 01:04:56 AM
Queensland has had a pretty bad year so far with the flooding and now cyclone Yasi. One of the largest and most destructive storms to ever make landfall.
300km/h winds near the eye that was about 40km wide when it hit the coast. With the speed it was moving meant that towns close to the eye endured these winds for 2-3 hrs. The storm damage was sustained in communitys along the coast for up to 350km from the centre.

No reported deaths so far.

Huge fires on the West Coast (Western Australia), 36 homes were lost. The news that is going around is it started from sparks from a angle grinder.

Abit OT, about 12yrs ago the water board were fixing a major water pipeline, & a little fire started while they welded up the join, long story to short that little fire burned down 10 homes. Got a phone call at work to tell me to get home quick smart.

& another..

I was about 17yrs old, i noticed smoke coming from down in the bush about 200 meters away (i live on a cliff), told mum/dad to ring the fire chaps. I jumped on my push bike to see what the going on, i got there & it was just a small scrub fire so i was throwing sand on it but it just got bigger & bigger, long story short it grew to a massive blaze which nearly wiped out a street of homes (got to there fence line), kids lit that one (i saw them running out of the bush when i was riding in).

These events that are happening in Aus right now are just mind blowing, so much devastation, so many peoples worlds turned upside down.
