Veteran BMW aficionados are likely aware of the existence of England's BMW Club, however not all may be aware of the on-line availability of the club's newsletters.
From 1951's first issue through 2001 -51 issues so far scanned in .pdf form with possibly more to come- the newsletters of The Official BMW Club within the UK and Ireland are a treasure trove of the BMW club's activities and the mark's history. http://www.bmw-club.org.uk/~archives/index.htm
The early years are classic typewriter/mimeograph efforts. Production quality continually improved with better typesetting and B/W photos. In the 1980's, stronger graphic design and layout combined with full-color imagery was added, resulting in an elegant type-club magazine.
The newsletters are linked from Phil Hawksley's massive website so spend some time there, too. http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/
Take a break away from your daily chores and check out an issue or two. Very enjoyable reading.

It's a good resource Monte. I downloaded almost every PDF file from 1978 onwards a couple of years back - it took me an age !
It's interesting to read a period report on the R45/R65 in the Aug 1978 edition written by a guy obviously used to the mainstream models and he was impressed :-
"Although only 5cm shorter than it's big brothers and not much lighter it handled like a bicycle ... I was truly astounded at the controllability at very low (walking) speeds."
Finding the info you might want can be a bit of a problem although there is an index you can download. A few years back I posted a reference to the editions (April 82 and Feb 91) which contain some of the best info I've ever seen on our forks.

BTW if anyone finds that the PDF files don't don't display correctly it can be resolved by using an older version of Adobe acrobat. If I remember there is some reference to this problem on the club site.
